Banded Yesterday; What is normal Pain?

Recommended Posts

Got banded yesterday. Doctor said everything went well. I'm doing the 75 grams of protien, and 64 total ounces of Water. I have some pain like I have to burb, but can't. Also feel like I have to pass gass, but can't. Took some Oxicoden to see if this will help. Feeling stressed about eating the shakes for another week. Any advice?

Pains that are normal: Not being able to burp or fart for a few days.. shoulder pains. These are caused from the gas that they put into your stomach at the time of surgery. The shoulder pain for me last about ten days. That was the worst part. The best I can tell you is, walk walk walk.. walking helps get the gas they put in you moving.. it helps being able to burp and fart.< /p>

My doctor told me that for my first week post surgery, I could drink anything that would go through a straw and the Fluid did not have to be clear. There are some really good Soups you can buy without chunks in them that help with any hunger pains.

Just remember, drink lots of Water

Good luck and congrats on your new life!

Thanks for the advice. I really feel lke I can't pass the gas right now. My stomach is grumbling, but nothing is happening. I also weighd myself returning from the hospital. I gained 4 pounds from the day I went in. I stayed there last night becase of my diabetes and high blood pressure. Any one else ever gain weight returning home. I was expecting to be down a couple more pounds. Maybe it was because of the IVs?

also, you will want to use a heating pad on your shoulder. It helps with the shoulder pain and take ibprofin.. it also helps with the swelling.

I don't have those health problems. However, if you had an IV drip, they are putting extra fluids in you which means you will have a weight gain. That is normal anytime you have IV fluids put into your body.

Good luck with your band!!!

I "gained" about 4 pounds too right after surgery. My body got rid of all the excess fluids in about 3 days.

Congrats on surgery and Good luck!!

Gas-X is your friend after surgery.

I gained 4lbs also. But soon lost it. It's the fluids they give you in your IV. A grumbling stomach does not mean you have to pass gas. My stomach grumbles all the time. I took GasX and walked and walked and walked. I believe that walking helped me heal faster. Hope you're feeling better real soon...

Thanks for all the comments. I was disappointed to be 4 pounds higher than when I started. The crazy part is the next day I was at 284. I had to get on the scale a couple of times to make sure I was reading it corretly. Today I was at 280. So I am down 14 pounds from when I returned home. My sugars have all been below 150, and usually below 130. I am used to the range of 200-400. My A1Cs have ranged from 9-12.5 the last couple of years. Last quarter I was about a 9.5. I'm hoping this could bring back to the low 7s. I only took about 30 units of Novalog yesterday, and typically take about 250 units. The progress is already taking place. I am also getting excited about exercising again. I am going to do some major walking today.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
