kat72 0 Posted November 2, 2005 I am noticing that some people are having to do a barium swallow before their surgery. I had my pre-op yesterday, and I had the EKG and lab work done, but I was not required to do a barium swallow. Is everyone supposed to do this, or is it left up to the surgeon to decide whether the patient will do one or not?
whippledaddy 5 Posted November 2, 2005 Every surgeon has his or her own preferences. My surgeon had me do everything. He is really into covering his butt. He gave me every test but a pap smear. And I think the only thing that stopped him is that I'm a guy. Grin.

Danistar 0 Posted November 2, 2005 The barium swallow was done on me by my surgeon the day after I had the surgery, to be sure the band was placed properly. Then I had another barium swallow today for my first fill, so he could tell how much saline to instill into the port to tighten up the band.
