My first snow day since being banded...and I am soooo struggling. For as long as I can remember, when my kids had a snow day, we'd bake Cookies together and then go outside and play in the snow. When we came back in, we'd have cookies and *real* homemade hot chocolate.

Even though I have really good restriction right now, I *know* those cookies would be no problem sliding through so I am so far resisting the temptation to bake. Fortunately, the only 'child' left home is 17 years old and has no problem with not baking and settling for sugar free hot chocolate...but I'm the one having problems.

It's tradition dammit!

Elfie, I feel your pain! We'd shovel, play in the snow and then order Chinese food... I'm craving egg foo young but know it's just toooooo bad.

Elfie,

It's time to start a new tradition. Make some sugar free pudding or baked apples.

You don't have to stop living, just do it in a healthier way!

Take care,

Donna

Could you make the dough and only bake 1 for you and how ever many your child wanted and freeze the rest? Then you could have on hand if you needed to bring something to a party.

I can't give up Cookies indefinitely. I have to learn to eat a cookie every now and then. I know some people can't do that and need to give up sweets (or what ever his/her vice is) completely. It was just a suggestion.

I hear you. We got over 2 feet of snow over this past weekend and are expecting at least another 1 (maybe 2) between tonight and tomorrow.

This weekend of all weekends I was doing the freaking pouch test, so I made sure I slept as much as possible LOL!

For tonight and tomorrow, I have my skinny cow treats and my banana/chocolate fudge/cream cheese creation that I got from the Super Bowl food thread LOL

You can do this, Elfie. Just bake other things :-)!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement and suggestions. I'm 5 days post fill and still pretty tight (for the first time) so I haven't been getting a whole lot to eat that satisfies the taste buds. So I'm kind of afraid if I make anything, even sugarfree, I'll binge just because it's something to excite the taste buds.

But it's 7 p.m. here in the snowy midwest and I think if I made it through this much of the day, I can make it through another couple of hours. We'll see what the morning brings but I'm usually pretty motivated in the mornings.

One step at a time...I guess.

Hope everyone in the path of this storm is keeping warm and toasty!

It has been cold and snowing here also. Ive been sitting around the house and eating from boredom. So taking my docs advice I went the mall today for someplace to walk for exercise. Well I don't know whats worse sitting around and not burning any calories or walking the mall burning calories and spending way too much on new shoes.

LOL...sitting home and eating out of boredom *and* not burning any calories is definitely worse.

We're having another snow day today because it snowed through the night. My exercise this morning is to shovel my way through a foot of snow to my car, clean off both cars, shovel two car sized spaces in the back of the drive and then move the cars so the plow can make it around our 'long' horseshoe shaped drive. Fortunately, the snow is somewhat light still so it shouldn't be overstrenuous.

Not even a snowball's chance in hell of going anywhere and wouldn't matter if I could. Everything is shut down due to the storm.

I can totally relate! While on my pre-op liquid stage, I spent the entire weekend (Fri-Mon) snowed-in the house with a husband and toddler (who eats very well and doesn't sleep enough). I had planned to keep myself busy during this stage with taking my daughter to activities, but that was impossible. Nonetheless, I was banded last Wed (the day of the 2nd Blizzard!) and I thought it would get cancelled. I got through it, but I too need suggestions on making new traditions.

I am not working so I know how it is to be bored, the food cravings kick in big time. How about making a craft instead of food? Just a thought.

LOL, we are going on 9 snow days, not including the weekend snowed in days, there is another 9 inches due today, and more snow by the weekend. Snow shouldn't be an excuse to go beyond moderation. The OP said that a batch of Cookies wouldn't be helpful for her. She didn't say she never has a cookie. If you had read many of her posts, you'd know she is an advocate of eating.

While an occasional treat can be lovely (i had a cookie at small group last pm) too many of those traditions is what got many of us to this point in the first place.

I'm in NYC and it is still snowing. I too like certain things on snow days: Double stuff Oreos. Last week I did not resist and bought and ate them all. This time No way. I made pizza with my 8 year old niece. Small whole wheat wraps, pizza quick sauce and reduced fat Mozzarella with turkey pepperoni. We made three and 'surprised' her mom with it. It was really good. Niece said we should do this every time it snows. So Now we have a new tradition. I think the shoveling has kept me from gaining. LOL

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
