Anyone bleeding from one of your incisions post-op?

Recommended Posts

So I was banned on the 28th. :cursing: Had a few scary things happen like low blood pressure/low blood sugar (non diabetic) and now I have to take Iron pills.

It looks like the incision through my belly button is oozing dark red blood. It's been doing this since the surgery. I went to the doctor (I was changing the dressings up to four times a day) and they said I had a blood clot *the good kind* and your body either absorbs it or pushes it out. Mine is pushing it out.

I'm still bleeding though, and I'm supposed to get my staples out Weds 2/10. Did anyone else go through this? Is there anyway to make it stop? I finally feel like my self again!!

When ever they do any type of surgery, there is always a chance that excess Fluid will stay into the tissues due to all the irrigant they use during surgery. They either put in a drain and suck it out, or the body reabsorbs the excess fluid. Now, there are instances where there is a small clot sitting somewhere or a loose stitch that continues to ooze and they end up cauterizing it or adding a stitch again. I am assuming you tried to apply pressure and ice to it. Ice is a vasoconstricture. It is their responsibility to take care of that because if you are oozing, THAT IS A FABULOUS PLACE FOR A NICE POCKET OF INFECTION TO START. THEN MY FRIEND, YOU WILL HAVE A WHOLE NEW SET OF ISSUES....make them take care of it.....changing a dressing 4 times a days is excessive.....

I've tried ice and pressure. It seems to ooze the most when I'm active or sitting, walking is fine, but if I'm cleaning around the house, driving or actually sitting down it comes out. When I asked them to check it out they took out 2 staples and cauterized where the two staples were, and told me it just needed to work itself out. It just started to ooze out the other side :cursing: Well at least I go tomorrow and see what they say. I don't want it to get infected so I have been cleaning it constantly and letting it air. Thanks for the advise :(

I was also banded on 1/28. My stitches were on the inside and he applied steri-strips over them. The strips are still there and the doc recommended to let them fall off by themself and not to pull them off. I've been pretty lucky and didn't have much bleeding. I'm hoping to get rid of the strips sometime this week... they're looking pretty rough.

I had about 8 staples on the outside then going into my belly button then back out again. I swear my belly button looks deformed now! I had the clear trips over mine as well, none of them bled through but my belly button. All of mine fell off a week in. I'm glad you're not bleeding, it's not fun, actually it's pretty nasty.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
