I am a little over 3 weeks post op and should be starting on soft foods. But for a few days I feel like I've been cheating. About 3 days ago I went to a chinese restaurant and had some egg drop Soup and tea. But I gave in and had 3 pieces of shrimp. I chewed well but I totally cheated and had sips of Water after wards :cursing: I felt like a failure. And this morning I had the inside of a "breakfast burrito" (scrambled egg, cheese, tomatoes and onions) I chewed fairly well but I think I'm sabatoging myself. I feel like I have healed wonderfully but I constantly think my band has slipped but I know it wouldn't right? Its either it will slip or I'm just over reacting. I'm really dedicated in this band but I felt horrible when I ate the food. :( I couldn't help it.

Its hard. And that is the biggest understatement every!

I've been banded about a month and have cheated a few times especially with the drinking while eating thing. Sometimes I just cannot help myself. It really seems like your doing fine. You at least know what you did wrong but everyone has rough times. Try to think about how much you have gone through to get to this point.

Also think ahead to how happy you will be as you start seeing the weight come off!

I am right there with you!

Don't worry, I just had a "cheat" myself and totally feel guilty.

I just had my band adjusted from a slip and supposed to be on Clear liquids for 3 weeks. I am about 2 weeks there and finally caved today and had some candy :cursing:

Blargh.

But I didn't go off the deep end and neither did you! We just need to take it one step at a time and remember why we did this in the first place.

This quote might sound weird but makes sense when you start losing (I've lost over 100 so far)

"Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels"

Be strong!

First, the postop diet seems to be somewhat arbitrary. Some people are back on solids within days of their surgery. My doc had me back on solids within 2 weeks. Second, it takes a lot more to get your band to slip than just eating something you think you shouldn't.

Second, according to my doc, part of the stomach is folded up over the band and sewed to keep the band in place. The only 'slips' he's seen are from people who were throwing up violently within the first month of surgery. Throwing up means heaving stomach...not the thing that happens when you drink something too fast and it goes down and right back up.

Just remember to take small bites and chew thoroughly and don't drink with your meals. If you *must*, take small sips and you shouldn't have any problems. However, once you start getting fills and some restriction, that may not be the case.

I have restriction and if I make the mistake of taking even a small sip with a meal, it's a tossup (ar ar...pun intended) whether I'll get to the bathroom before that Water comes right back up.

Thanks so much for the insight. I'm glad I'm not alone in this. But I think I'm can eat way too much now. I guess I get paranoid easily. The other day I experienced my first time getting stuck. I ate too fast and didn't chew well. I feel like I'm failing so badly. I just am so packed with school that I can't have time to just sit and take it slow. I've got a long way to go.

abi516--Dont worry most people go through this. I think this is where the Dr's drop the ball on telling you what to expect. You dont have any restriction until you start to get your fills. I actually gained weight during this time. I cheated during the liquid diet and ate mashed potatoes because I was so hungry. I am not saying its ok but it happened, everything is ok now, you should stop beating yourself up. Stay with your Dr's diet and be patient, remember if the band worked by just putting it in we wouldnt have the port:thumbup:

This is a very difficult time period you are going through. Many of us have "been there, done that". You may get quite hungry. It was everything I could do to not gain weight. I maintained my weight loss what seemed like for weeks. Until you start getting your fills you may experience quite a bit of hunger. Just make good food choices and hope you don't gain anything back. Best wishes!!!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
