April 2010

I don't have to do the preop diet either. I had to do the three month supervised program for my insurance to approve. But, now other than Clear Liquids the day before, I don't have a specific diet. I am cutting way back though so my body gets used to less food.< /p>

O.k. that is good to know I was getting worried. I think since it has taken so long to get approved that now I am worrying about every little thing that could go wrong to prevent me from getting it. I am a big worry wart. LOL. I am so glad I have found this site and hope to keep in touch with all of you. I will not be able to go to support group meetings because I have three kids and I dont have a babysitter. So it will be wonderful to have all of you to keep in touch with and go through this journey with..

One week until the surgery. I am having second, third, fourth and fifth thoughts. I just don't know. I have been so hungry during the pre-op and I have been faithful. Since 3-12 the only thing that touched my lips that wasn't appropriate was two cups of popcorn. A moment of weakness but it didn't keep me from going straight back on the diet the very next minute.

I am just scared that it is not the right thing to do. I mean, we are placing a foreign object in our bodies. Forever. I know it is my addiction to food that is trying to talk me out of this but I am so hungry from not eating now, how is it going to be when I can't have anything but clear liquids for a month? Plus I have been busting my bottom working out and not eating and I only lost 4 pounds from last Wednesday to yesterday. I just don't get it. Then my "monthly" visitor showed up just at the wrong time so that is going to pack more weight on no matter what I do. I am frustrated and worried. I just need to keep in prayer, keep on the program and not give in when there is a feeling of weakness. Thanks for listening to me rant. Sorry it is so long. I apologize for being such a baby but I need help.

Stacey

I would be concerned if you weren't having 3rd, 4th, and 5th thoughts! I think it is normal, pre-surgery jitters. I'm having my fair share of them also. Interestingly enough, my monthly also showed up at the wrong time, 2 weeks early, which my doctor attributed to all the changes going on in my body with the pre-op diet. Sorry to hear your pre-op weight loss has slowed... at least 4/1 is only 7 days away!

My surgery date is April 8th! I have gone from excited, to very very anxious. I have been doing alot of second guessing and thinking about trying one more diet. But, I know I've already done one more diet too many times. I am so scared about not eating! Isn't that stupid.

I also am going on vacation for 1 week, when I get back I will only fast for 4 days! That scares me that it's not enough when I read everyone else has had two weeks to 1 month fasts! My Dr. is Well thought of in my area, so I trust he knows what he's talking about. . . .but I'm still a little panicked about that whole thing!

ok, I'm wondering if we can start a list of things to take to the hospital with you. I am getting really nervous and when that happens I start organizing so.... here's my list for right now: lip gloss, gasx strips, my ipod, comfy clothes and step in shoes, a pillow for the ride home, that's all I can think of right now. Any ideas to add?

Good idea. That all sounds great. I can't think of anything else either. Unless you have to stay over then I would pack deoderant and toothbrush.

Hi all I am scheduled for surgery April 8th. Been working on this since July of last year very excited that it is finally happening. Nervous as well. Hope to be able to keep in touch with you all. Would love to have someone to go through this with. :o

Dear Twinserely,

Hi :smilielol5:. Have you found a journey buddy yet? I am being banded on April 7 and I would love to have someone to compare notes with daily. I am fully commited to doing this, but very nervous about it. I am not required to do a preop diet, but I started anyway just to make sure I don't get rejected for a fatty liver.

If you are interested, send me a PM and we can get to know each other.

What a great idea to make a list of things to take with you to the hospital. My dr. said I should be out of there within 4 hours. What about a book to read in case there is wait time?

April 1st is on it's way!!! Only three more days then it's off to the beginning of a new life.

BTW....school picture day was last week. Standing next to my class seeing myself was proof enough. If I had any worries they are all gone now!!! All you need is a full body shot to know that we are doing the right thing having this surgery! I can lie to myself by what I see in the mirror but pictures and store windows don't lie! :o Next year's class picture I am gonna look great! I can't wait!!! Come on April 1st. I have lost five more pounds. For those of us unlucky enought to have to do the pre-op diet, I just put some cinnamon in my Protein Shake with some splenda....try it!!! YUMMMY! Thanks for much for the support everyone. We are all going to look and feel so much better when we do this for ourselves.

I have a date for april 22. I am super excited after fighting with insurance for so long its finally coming. I'm definately worried about the liquid diet two weeks prior to surgery!!!!! I know this is silly but I am concerned about excess skin, I of course would rather be skinny and have excess skin then fat but if I do have it I just hope I can hide it. I read on here there are a few people getting banded on the 22nd you will have to keep me posted on how your doing. Best of luck to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
