Is it normal to be so tired...

Recommended Posts

I am exhausted! I had my surgery on 2/3 and I am still on the liquid and Protein Shake stage. I do have a hard time getting it in. I am just sooo tired all of the time. I think I am not gettign enough calories in. I get pressure in my chest and I am not sure if it is gas or what? I am forcing myself to continue to drink Water constantly. I am just so worn out though. I have not been taking the pain meds so that is not the cause.:)

I'm sure being exhausted within the first week or so after surgery is completely normal. Try not to worry so much and don't be afraid to call your surgeon with any questions you may have.

I was banded on January 25 adn I am still tired. That first week I was exhausted and had terrible pains from the surgery. The pains were due to the gas. I didn't take pain meds either. I did take Gas x and used a heating pad. these were life savers. Walking then laying down seemed to relieve it too. I am starting week three and I am not having those pains. I do have a pain that comes and goes near the port however feeling so much better. I am going by the motto - one day at a time.

Keep your spirts up and take one day at a time.

Of course!!! you were just banded..fast surgery or not its a prety big deal. It takes a week or more for the seditives/drugs to come out of your body plus I assume you are not drinking caffine, and reduced sugar intake and might be taking painkillers..etc. There are lots of reasons to still be tired..the number 1 for YOU is you just had surgery. :)

It can take 3 months to feel a good version of normal. 1 day at a time. In 4 weeks you will feel nothing like you do today..AND..you will be skinnier!

I know how you feel, I'm very tired too, my sugery was 2/2. as far as the pain in your chest make sure you sip sip, like it was ot tea. I went though that last friday, I drank too much too fast and the PAIN, so keep it slow. What i do is leave out a 4 oz glass fill with what you are drinking and drink that four oz w/ in the hour and every hour and you will have enough liquids in you..

I wish I had read that..I am 8 weeks this week and am finally getting back to normal. I asked everyone. My dr.s office, on here, friends, family. Fact is, you just had surgery, you have taken major calories from your body, sugar, alcohol who knows what and probably added gas! and exercise ..your body is in shock.. I'm sorry I didn't read your age but for anyone age is a factor in this. The experts don't realize how long it takes. Heck we don't realize how long it takes. Thankfully I am feeling so much better but it took me 2 months!

Im moving and loosing now though, good luck!

My doctor was quick to remind me that this may seem like a 'nothing' deal because we're in and out within hours, but it is major surgery nonetheless. It takes time for our bodies to heal from trauma to the body and the anesthetic used during surgery.

Be patient with yourself. Do get up and move around. The more you do, the faster you will work the toxins out of your body. Do drink your Water. Your organs work more efficiently and you'll feel less exhausted.

I was back at work the day after surgery...and promptly went home after 2 or 3 hours and took a nap. The following day it was better and continued to get better every day. You will too. :cursing:

I'm about two and a half weeks out and i'm really tired a lot too. If I go out to the grocery store or anything when I come home I just collaps and take a nap. My doctors nurse told me to be easy on myself and to expect to be tired for a bit at least six weeks out to give things time to heal and go back into place. So I feel what you are saying. Those words she said stuck in my head though, to give myself a break so i have been. :cursing:

Thanks all, I am thinking of all of the people who say they go back to work within a few days and just can't understand it. Luckily, I stay home with my 2y/o so as for the last two days I have had to have the t.v on a lot for her. I will make it up to her. Especially when the weight is gone and I have so much energy I won't know what to do with myself!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
