hello - I was banded a few weeks ago and can finally eat solid food. I am finding that I am so hungry these days. i did really good on the preop diet and lost 15 lbs however since being banded I have not lost anything. Plus I am hungry all the time. I am trying to make good choices but nothing seems filling. Plus.. I have this pain on my port side but it is not at the port location. Could i have broken my band? Most likely not but paranoid none the less.

I think this is all normal however when will I stop being hungry? Are you supposed to lose weight before your first fill?

I was banded 4 weeks ago and am in the same boat as you. I lost 6 pounds pre-op and then another 15 pounds in the first 2 weeks post-op. But now I have been sitting at the same weight for 2 weeks and am frustrated! I have maintained a low calorie, high Protein diet and have been tracking everything on The Daily Plate.com to ensure I stay around 1000 calories.

So this week, I am trying to really limit my carbs as I know in the past, this has been an issue for me and I was only successful with weight loss, when I did high Protein - low carb diets. I am also trying to exercise more but feel limited since I can only do the treadmill and eliptical machine. And I often get pains in my sides (not at port site, but to left or right) if I get too ambitious with the exercise. My doctor said no exercises that involve the core muscles (aerobics, yoga, etc) and no weight lifting until I see him at 6 weeks post-op.

Another thing I have tried is to increase my calories because I was usually only around 600-700 calories in the first 2 weeks and my doctor said I should be around 1000. Also, I have read on these posts about your body going into starvation mode when your calories are too low and then no weight loss. Well, I am not sure if that applies to me because it seems that since I have raised my calories to 1000, I am not losing weight.

This is frustrating because I feel like I am working so hard at it and not seeing results! I feel your pain!

it is normal and then you will get your first one or two fills maybe more and you will watch it melt away. I am getting ready for my first fill. I have only lost about 20lbs and eating right and strict and exercising. According to my doctor it is normal to gain prior to fill because you are doing it on your own right now.

Normal. you need a fill once your doc says its ok. Might need several overtime. But..normal. I think people call this period of time you are in "Band Hell".

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
