I've been having a bad case of the pre-op LAP-BAND® diet blues. My surgery will be in late March and my surgeon does 3 months supervised weight loss and also the 2 week liquid diet just prior to surgery. I have really been struggling with following the pre-op diet, and even managed to gain weight between my two nutrition appointments! So, today I woke up and thought, "I got this". I went and got some small bowls and plates, took my dog and two year old for a long walk, and have eaten perfect. I'm totally at peace with continuing like this until surgery. Did anyone else have this kind of sudden awakening???

yeah at first I kinda felt that way... then I thought well my 3 months of supervised diet I can use this time to reprogram myself and slowly change my habits. It worked out well I lost 20lb before surgery! I am glad I got started instead of waiting for the pre-op diet time. This whole thing isn't so hard ...especially when you see the scale move and you have a team to be accountable to.

The biggest help for me other than the human encouragement is the Daily Plate at www.livestrong.com. I am most successful when I faithfully log what I am eating and doing. I just keep myself logged on all day and go back and enter here and there. It really breaks it down so that you can see what your numbers are and what food is most costly so you can decide if you really want to eat it again , or a full serving , if you know what I mean.

I actually went and bought a pair of "skinny jeans" today... wow they feel weird. I still have to move that belly, above the waist line, maybe some crunches will help, everything else has been melting away "evenly' so to speak :)

So go for it... you will be so pleased. Think of what you can do and eat rather than what you can't. Glass is half full not half empty if you catch my drift!

Good Luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
