Band slippage?

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for just over 2 years. Went in for a fill on Thursday and my pouch was bigger than it should have been but the band was tight. I have been able to eat bread for the last month which was odd and so I thought a fill was in order. The doctor said I had band slippage. So, the decision was made to pull all 6 cc's out for two weeks to see if gravity takes hold and pulls the stomach down through the band to make the pouch smaller again and then begin filling again, basically repositioning the band without surgery. :)

Has anyone else experienced this situation and if so, is this the process? If this does not work, then what should the next step be? Thank you in advance for your advice.

I do not know what causes the band to slip. Drinking too much too fast will hurt like hell. You will learn what works and what does not work. I am shocked that after two years of being banded that mine slipped. I will post more as I go through this experience.

Thank you sooooo much for the post, Freebird! Knowledge is power. I appreciate your willingness to share. I am two years post-op, also.

Okay, four more days until I find out if deflating the band did what it was supposed to do. I enjoyed the "freedom" of eating the first couple of days but it really is not that enjoyable any more. I find myself sticking to the things I eat when my band is at optimal fullness which is a good thing in this situation. I do miss the assistance the band gives me and can't wait to hopefully start getting it filled again.

Woohoo!!! Deflating my band worked. I actually received 4 cc's back in today. The deflation got my band to adjust to the position that it should be in and so no surgical revision is needed. Back on liquids and mushies for a bit, but I do not mind.

How did they know the band had slipped? Was there any pain or anything that went with the slippage? Thanks for any info.

Well I was also told today after several struggles with not being able to eat and losing to much weight that my band has slipped. I am not happy with this because this has been the only way I was able to loose the 90 lbs and i do not want to gain it back, So now I will have to have my band removed on Tuesday I am so dissappointed. This started back in April when i wasnt able to eat and was vomiting I went to have some Fluid took out and then progressivly was still unable to eat maybe a few bites at a time so the moral of the story be careful if you have prob get them addressed I tryed

Hi Lynnkat03:

I had a slip too. Mine started sometime in April. It was a mild slip, but it was stubborn and wouldn't move back. I started gaining weight and flipping out. I had a revision to the more current Alergan band on 7/20. So glad I did it.

Can't your doctor replace yours instead of just taking it out?

Best wishes to you.

Sue

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
