Recommended Posts

Your opinions and experiences are valued

The purpose of the study:

Researchers at Griffith University are investigating the social and psychological effects of adjustable gastric banding surgery. The purpose of the study is to gain information on the ways in which your surgery has affected your life. Our aim is to learn from your experience and find out about any issues that need to be addressed in order to improve the quality of life of people who choose to have adjustable gastric banding surgery

Who can participate:

We invite individuals who have had gastric banding surgery at least 2 years ago to share their opinions and experiences with our team.

How to participate:

If you would like to participate in a questionnaire simply click on the link Adjustable Gastric Banding Surgery Survey or email Kerrie.Woods@ student.griffith.edu.au.

Confidentiality and Ethics:

The information you give will be confidential and if results are published your identity will be anonymous. The project has been granted ethical approval (Griffith Ethics Code – PSY/B4/08/HREC) and complies with the National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans.

Expected Benefits:

This study is expected to benefit both people who have had the surgery and others considering gastric banding surgery, as healthy lifestyle support programs can be based upon the results of this research. As a gesture of our appreciation, all who agree to participate will be offered the opportunity to enter into a draw for one of several $50 money orders.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

Warm regards

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
