I think you have to take into account - and this is just my 2 cents - when people are posting about problems it is because they are looking for help - but when people are doing and feeling great they probably dont start threads that much - I dont think there are more regreters and people happy with their band - i think its just the *why* they are posting that makes it look that way sometimes.

I agree that you will see the people who are unhappy speak out more, plus just because you are having a bad incident or struggling doesn't mean you wouldn't do it again.

I do regret it, but it was necessary for me. I wasnt trying to be skinny. I had serious health issues. If it werent for those, I was content with myself, size and all. I know, the horrors how could someone actually be happy at a size 22.

Do you regret that it was necessary or are you having problems with your band? Your weightloss looks really good. I also started with a BMI of 50 and I have not regretted being banded at all.

I'm really curious......

I'm pre-op and have been hanging around the boards for over a month....I'm getting all my testing done, jumping through the required hoops for my insurance company.....

and I see sooo many posts from people who are struggling with so many questions and issues, from relationships, to PBing, plateaus, pain, some have had it removed, just to have it re-installed :)

what percentage ( hence the poll) do not regret this choice, and would willingly make it again?

who thinks that this is the only option that would successfully help them lose the weight for good?

Does anyone still think they can lose weight on their own ( without the band)??

Is the pain, frustrations, and negative's completely overcome by the success of losing 50-75-100+lbs?!?!?!

has all of it inclusively been worth it?!??!

(thanks for letting me know your opinion)

OMG, getting my band was one of the best decision I ever made. I'm in my fourth year, maintaining a healthy weight for over 2 years. What you need to understand is that this is a tool, and you need to learn how to work it. You need people to help guide the way, your surgeon's practice (especially their aftercare program), others who have bands and have been successful, support groups...I'm blogging about my journey, so is my mentor. The link is in my signature. I hope it helps.

Hey! You lost 5 more pounds! Congrats!!!

I wish I knew it was an option a few year ago, I would have done it in a heartbeat, but thankful now that I have made this choice.

Yes, I would do it again. Although I struggled to lose weight my first 2-ish years, I have no doubt that, despite my best efforts, I would have packed on at least 100lbs since my surgery date had it not been for the band.

Now that I'm close to goal, I'd like to think that I would be able to maintain my weightloss if I were to lose my band completely. The new habits I've learned, along with a smaller stomach, would be enough I hope... but for most that's not the case. Honestly, I'd be nervous to go band-free now.

If I were to have WLS nowadays though, I can say that I would be considering the gastric sleeve over the band (not an option I had heard of when I had my band put in). It's a very personal choice though.

Best wishes to you, Esam, on your weightloss journey, whatever you decide!

I have just been banded 6 weeks and so far no regrets. I've lost some weight, my clothes are feeling baggy and the best thing - I am exercising more now than I ever have and it feels soooo good. I'm eat more healthy - it feels great and hopefully it will only get better as more weight comes off.

A 22? I want to shop in your stores! When I was 330 I was wearing 28's. At 260 I was wearing 24's! Can't wait to go buy new pants now that I'm down 35 pounds!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
