Suggested Mini-goals

Recommended Posts

For some of us, the thought of losing the 100 pounds that we need to lose is far too daunting to even think of doing. If we are part of the Turtle Tribe or even Winded Wabbits, I think some mini-goals are in order.

Might I suggest the following mini-goals?

  1. getting to the next obesity level. For some of us that means that getting to the MO level is an accomplishment, for others it is leaving MO and just being obese, and for those that are closer to goal, overweight.
  2. Reaching Trippoli, Twonesia and of course, Onderland. These only count as mini goals if they are within a reasonable amount of time.
  3. Reaching double digits in KG, that means 218 pounds
  4. Cutting our BMI 1 full point, or even a half point.
  5. Gaining a pound of muscle

For me, Onderland is not a reasonable mini-goal. At the rate I'm losing weight, that would likely take me another year. And even Double Digits seems to far away.

NSVs are also important mini-goals

  1. drop to the next size
  2. not being able to wear a favorite pair of pants because they look like clown pants now
  3. walking up a flight of stairs without being winded or feeling like we are going to keel over from heart failure
  4. not needing a seatbelt extender
  5. being able to tie our own shoes

And of course, the NSV-mini goal list goes on and on.

Great idea Vines! My question is what kind of time frame are we talking about in regards to mini goals. Should it take less than a month or two, or perhaps before the next major holiday or special occasion like our bandiversary granted that is within reach?

I would like to be in the KG double digits, therefore I have 23.5lbs to go to get there. My goal is to see that number by Valentines Day. It definately sounds more attainable than getting to Onederland by then. That means I need to average 1.57lbs/week. That is absolutely a more realistic goal that I'm used to making.

In terms of NSV's I'd like to fit comfortably in size 18 bottoms and 18/20 or 2X tops by Christmas. I'm almost there now so this again is not an unrealistic goal. I'd also like to lose enough of the double chin that I have left now so that I can get a shorter hair cut and have it look cute.

Great idea Vines, I am totally into mino goals. That is one thing I learned from going to Weight Watchers is never set you goal to the point that in your head it seems unatainable. I just set my mini goals to 10 percent less than whatever I currently weigh or what I weigh at the end of one goal.

Love this idea and will be thinking of my mini goal, and posting a ticker of it along with my big overall goal. I think you're onto something, here, Batgirl!

Vines, these are excellent goals. I was just trying to think of some. For me, though, double digits in kg is probably just around the corner. I'm currently at 220 lbs (100 kg).

I've been making personal scale goals in 10 lb increments. When I was stuck at 230 lbs for three weeks, I was very disappointed, until a co-worker pointed out to me that I looked smaller. I went home that evening and measured myself, and sure enough I had lost inches, but I couldn't see it for myself until I did side by side. (click here: http://www.geocities.com/cissy1218/photos2.html) But then of course, after my first fill, I lost those 10 pounds in 10 days. I'm not even looking for the scale to move again any time soon.

So what I have determined now is that when I'm looking for scale victories, but the scale isn't moving, look for a NSV with measurements.

Mini goals help keep me sane. I recently told a friend about this when she was upset that her goal was going to take her 'forever' (rabbit that she is).

Mine breakdown like this:

Started at 280;

250 (nice round number, 30 lbs down)

230 (50lbs down, weight on my license)

215 (BMI just below 35)

210 (halfway to my big goal)

199 (obviously)

180 (100 lbs from start)

160 (weight when in Jr. High)

140 (final goal (maybe))

When you break it down like that, it's not so bad.. There's also other ways to look at it; I've gone from a 24 to a 16/18, and I'd like to be an 8/10 (would totally settle for 12). 18 to 16 to 14 to 12 to 10 doesn't seem like that many sizes.

So my current mini goal is 210 and I'm currently 225.

I had set time limits on my goals, but my body just isn't listening to that, so I gave up. I'll just rejoice whenever I get there, lol.

I am realizing my next mini-goal is 188 for the Fall Challenge. I have been fighting the same 2-3 pounds for a month, in true turtle fashion, and seem to be on the low end lately. I don't think it's out of reach to see 188 in two weeks, since I was 192.6 this morning. ???

As for an NSV mini-goal, I suppose I'd like to see some improvement in the belly area. I wore a tucked-in shirt yesterday (hey, that's an NSV to post!), but have no business doing so, considering the shape of my bulging fat lower belly. Yuck. That's such a fat-filled flabby area I hate to let the tape-measure be an indicator of progress on that one. Any ideas? I'll check the BMI chart for my next mini-goal.

Okay, I have the Fall Challenge, the Slow Losers Club, the Mini-Goal club, the NSV thread, I know there is another I want to join but can't recall...plus the LBT Christmas Gift Exchange...think I might be doing too much? :) Nahhh.

I'm in - I'm hoping to lose 8lbs by my birthday Jan 10. which means I've got to kick some serious ass as I've only lost 10lbs in 5 months - but I'm going for a tweek fill in my band on Weds. so I'm hoping that will help me out. So 8lbs in 2 months for my birthday is my mini-goal.

My first very mini goal is to get under 200lbs - that should be soon I hope.

2nd mini goal is to get under 90 kilos which is around 196 lbs. That one will make me very happy.

My first big NSV is to finally have my regular clothes too big. I have lost 10 kilos or over 20 lbs and my clothes still fit :) Why didn't anyone tell me they were sooo tight...

Why didn't anyone tell me they were sooo tight...

Well I just had a recent experience where my boyfriend told me my shirt was too tight - and it wasn't really a pleasant experience knowing my boyfriend thinks I was too fat to wear this tight shirt - at first he just said he didn't like the shirt and then I asked why - knowing what the answer was but wanting to hear it from him and then he told me it was too tight on me. I guess I appreciate it because I don't want to embarrass myself as I consider myself a trendy dresser and I don't like to see other people wearing things they can't pull off - but it still hurt my feelings A LOT!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
