when will i feel "normal" again?

Recommended Posts

Now, I am less than a week post op (banded on 2/1) & i still feel..blah. like i'm bloated & still really gasy. My stomach hurts but not the incisions, its sore from the gasy and bloating. And i'm still having a hard time figuring out if i'm actually hungry or not.

Just wondering how long all this lasts...like when will I feel "normal" again & not like i have a piece of plastic inside of me lol

For me, by the end of one week, most of the pain and bloating was gone. By the end of the second week, functioning normally to every one else, but personally felt tired/drained trying to keep up my normal activity level. By the end of the third week, 100%. I was worried that my port site would remain sore/tender for a long time after (cause I read that on here sometimes), but even my port site felt fine by the end of the third week.

hi im 10wks out and totally understand where you are coming from i felt like that at first, but hey it gets better i promise the gas is normal some people feel it more than others, keep walking around it will go the more you move around the better give it another week it will pass being hubgry or not will not effect the gassy pains, keep to what you doc has told you and youll be fine, dont forget the pain killers they help big time.

the not really knowing if i'm hungry or not is just such a weird feeling. obviously before i knew if i was hungry, i knew if i was full. i'm still on full liquids/mushies. i have been adding Protein Powder to thing so that i'm getting all the Protein i'm supposed to have.

so far i've just attributed it to having to relearn my body's signals since i've been banded. i just hope that within the next month i begin to understand my "new stomach" more & understand my hunger & fullness

I am on week four. I felt fine at 2 weeks but I am still learning when I am full and to chew better. I still get stuck sometimes on the first bite. It is weird to still be head hungry yet full at the same time. I want to take another bite but it just won't fit.

I was also banded on 2/1 and if it makes you feel any better, I feel like sh*t too. Hungry, run down, gas pains in my chest and arm etc. I have it in my head that Monday will be the charm. I also get to start mushies on Thursday and feel like something more substantive than Protein Shakes might also cure what ails me. Is your job at a desk or are you on your feet?

I am also thinking on Monday, when i go back to work and things start going back to normal I also will start feeling normal... ish! things affecting me right now would be internally - the gas - have tried de-gas but think i will look for something else as these dont appear to be helping much. other than that i feel good on the "inside."

The surgical sites seem o.k other than the larger one close to my belly button. (is this where my port could be?) I think i was too doped up to remember when the Dr told me... its also yellowish bruise like colour and slightly numb feeling so just waiting for that to heal or til i see the dr on Tuesday to suss that out.

sleeping is pretty uncomfortable, SO SICK OF sleeping ON MY BACK!!!! just want to roll over and get comfy! sleeping on my side is ok with a pillow but still not great.

Mentally - "blergh" would decribe that... *sigh*

but thanks everyone the more i read the better i feel

It took me a full 3 weeks before I felt normal again. I was also lucky not to have had to sleep only on my back. I was able to sleep on either side from day 1.

just a thought but this feeling of being run down etc. are you taking a good strong vitimin with minerals and Calcium, it is very important that your body gets the things it needs most of all, i take a high strengh vit wityh mins and Calcium every day if i dont after a few days i feel very run down and blah im 10 weeks out not and after taking these i feel great even if im not hungry which sometimes im not especailly in the am i still take them to keep me topped up, find a good quality chewable or one that can easily be chopped up so you can take it with getting stuck hope this helps flo xx

Thanks Heidi. I actually have been taking my Vitamins, primarily because they're the closest thing I'm coming to food! Now that you mention it, I'm not sure I've been taking the Calcium so I'll step that up. Do they have a special surgery for people addicted to gummy vitamins? Because I'll be needing that next.

I'm on my feet for the most part, because I'm a hairstylist so I do a little running around & a mostly standing. The only thing i'm worried about is leaning over the Shampoo bowls, but i'll figure out a way to work that out, perhaps someone else will be able to shampoo for me. we'll see. but tomorrow is the day so i'm feeling pretty good.

I am almost 6 weeks post op and am finally just now feeling normal enough to sleep on my belly. It isn't such a fast recovery for everyone. I had a lot of pain. :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
