Hungry in the morning - breakfast ideas?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a big issue with Breakfast, and hoping someone can help. When I leave for work in the morning (about 7:30 am), I'm not hungry, but by about 9:00 I'm starving. I'm a teacher and my schedule doesn't allow for time to sit and eat an elaborate breakfast, so the best I can do is eat a greek yogurt with berries or granola, or some cheese, or a Protein Bar, but by 10:30 I'm hungry again. Real, uncomfortable hunger - not head hunger.

Does anyone have ideas for a filling breakfast that can carry me for three or four hours, that I can pack and doesn't need to be heated/cooked (I don't have access to a microwave)? I think I'm at restriction (or close) and I have 8.5cc's in a 10cc band, so there's not much more room. But part of me thinks this shouldn't be a problem. So many of you seem to be fine in the mornings with only a cup of coffee or a Protein shake. How can I eat a whole Protein Bar and be legitimately hungry an hour and a half later?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

I am one of those coffee and Protein Shake drinkers myself! I also like to make a bowl of cream of wheat and take it to work with me..I actually don't mind it cold and I do have a mic at work. The cream of wheat stays with me for hours! Hope this might help you!!

I am the same way when I eat bars. I love Fiber one bars, but because it is full of sugar, I am stomach-rumbling hungry an hour later. For lunch, I only eat a campbells soup-at-hand and it holds me for about 3 hours. So, some mornings I cook grits at home and pack it to school. I then nuke it for a minute and it tastes great. I have heard that some people like to eat eggs for breakfast, so you could probably pack a hard-boiled egg or two and that should definitely keep you satisfied for at least 3 hours.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
