18 days post op... plateau already!!!

Recommended Posts

OK - to put the thread back on topic....

I am 24 days post op and have only lost 4 lbs since surgery. I lost 9 on two week pre op diet. The scale has gone up and down for the past two weeks but I haven't lost any additional weight....However, as frustrated as I am several people have told me they can tell I have lost weight...people that I see every day. I want to say, Well, I haven't lost anything in almost 3 weeks!!! but I just think, maybe something is working and I am just not noticing on the scale.

Cure - looking at your stats, it looks like you are not eating enough. I know that sounds odd, but your body does weird stuff. I would recommend calculating your BMR and only reducing your daily caloric needs by enough to lose 2 lbs per week. or what ever your doc has suggested. My doc told me to expect 1 - 1.5 lbs per week....so I guess I am actually on target at 4 lbs...seems very discouraging to go through major surgery spend 12K to only have lost 4 lbs...but this is a marathon not a sprint.

I saw some really good sites posted on here this week for calculating daily caloric needs. If you search for BMR it should pull them up.

Good Luck!

I want to say that some things have came to my attention and i want to retract some of the things i have said in my earlier comment..I still agree that sometimes we are impatient and losing weight is a journey not an overnight sensation but I was under the impression that the thread starter (Curefortheend) was being rude to btrieger which apparently is not the first time these to have gone rounds with each other.

You weren't mistaken. She was extremely rude and it is the first time we have "gone rounds."

.So i am SORRY if i upset anyone and i have already made a formal apology to Curefortheend..If i would have know some of the facts that i know now i would never have said ANYTHING..I am a firm believer in people sticking up for them selves but i am an even stronger believer in people such as myself admitting when they are in the wrong...Again I AM SORRY if i offended anyone!!!

You don't owe her any kind of apology and you weren't wrong.

Dude give it a rest and back off. Obviously, you are not helping so just keep your distance. For what ever reason you two are not clicking so just stop.

We really need post to help us through this point we are in right now.

Curefortheend,

In answer to your pm, I am dropping around 200 calories. I was told to stay between 1200 and 1400 me being who I am i went for the highest. So yesterday I made changes. I cut back on my calories. I dropped instantly! I am re-inspired. It sounds to me like you need more calories. I was told and have read multiple times to not go below 1000.

Good luck to you. I know for me I am excited to have seen what works for me!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
