makena2 0 Posted November 1, 2005 I'm really doing great with my recovery...very little problems. Question: I still have quite a bit of port site pain, not the incision, but the muscle underneath. Is that normal? I KNOW I overdid it yesterday, going to the grocery store, visiting friends at the office for Halloween...paying for it today with some aches and pains. Pain medication is a wonderful thing.
leatha_g 4 Posted November 1, 2005 Yes. It's very normal. You'll find that the port itself can be quite tender for some time to come.

You just answered your own question! You over did it, and you know you over did it. Your body is still at the sort of freaked out stage... OH MY GAWD, WHAT DID YOU DO TO ME???????!!!! and WHAT IS THIS THING?????!!!!!! Your port was stitched to the muscles so it will be very tender for a few weeks to several weeks. Take it easy for the next little while and be kind to yourself!
Teresita 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Your port area will be the last scar to heal because it is the biggest. That scar will be your baby for the next 2 1/2 months. You will protect it from everything and it will let you know when it is there if you roll over on it. LOL Good Luck you are doing Great
Bensmum1109 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Completely normal. I am almost 7 weeks out and I still have port pain from time to time. Especially when I have been carrying around my son for a while.
lildarlin 0 Posted November 1, 2005 Do you feel the port all the time. Can you touch your side and actually feel it there? Are you able to lay on your side after a while without it hurting?? Luckily, I like to lay on my right side, the port is on the left, right?
Teresita 0 Posted November 1, 2005 No you don't actually feel the port, it is really the incision that you are feeling. You will be able to lay on it without it hurting in a little while but you know that it is there.
tambonzjo 7 Posted November 1, 2005 I also had Dr. Benavides as my surgeon (isn't he great?!) and yes you will feel the port for a while. It is attached to the muscle so it will hurt longer. Mine hurt for about a good 3 weeks. I drove alot after the surgery with a small pillow on my left side...dang speed bumps!! LOL!! Trust me, it will get better. lovecats85 2 Posted November 1, 2005 I'm 4 1/2 weeks out and I still have sore muscle around my port but my doc says it's normal and nothing to worry about - mine did get as swollen as golf ball size at one point but it finally went down!
