Frozen Berries and Smoothies Questions

Recommended Posts

Two quick questions:

1) I know that we shouldn't "drink our calories", but would smoothies be an exception? I had a fill the other day, and am on liquids for another day or so, and have re-aquainted myself with making blueberry smoothies, and was debating whether to start having them regularly for Breakfast, or Snacks.< /p>

2) Like I said, I like my blueberry smoothies, but I DON'T like the price of fresh berries. Frozen ones are available, and cheaper. Is there a significant difference in quality? I know frozen is never as good as fresh, but for this kind of use, does it matter that much.

Gracias.

I do regularly make smoothies for breakfast. Its a great way to get fruit in and I find fruit almost impossible to force myself to eat these days. I've never liked the sensation on my teeth of eating it (weird, I know) and now that I have a band and fruit tends to get stuck, it nauseates me to even think of eating it.

So I blend it up, usually bananas and berries.

I'm not much of a breakfast eater even though I'm not unable to eat it, I just dont really want it. I find now I'm back at full time work, I risk going through the day on about 200 calories if I dont get in breakfast, so a smoothie is a great way to meet Calcium needs, fruit needs and calorie needs. I thrown in some flax seeds too for the nutrients and fibre they offer.

Good, worthwhile, multipurpose food if you ask me.

I too make smoothies with fruit but be careful you would be surprised how much sugar is in fruit...I usually put frozen blueberries and a banana in mine...I don't drink them as often after i found out the sugar content in the fruit but there are days i know i'm not going to get much food in so i definitely make a fruit smoothie to start the day and they are sooooo yummy and it makes it easy to get your Protein in that way as well...lol You gotta do what you gotta do sometimes:lol:

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
