7 days out...port is KILLING me

Recommended Posts

I'm getting frustrated beyond belief...got banded a week ago today..and was doing fine. Dr. had to repair a hernia at the same time but i've heard that is common. Got banded on a friday and felt so good i went back to work on following tuesday. While at work, i had a little coughing spell and it KILLED my port with each cough. i tried to hold it but I mean it almost brought me to my knees. It felt like my port was being shook and then it was followed by INtense burning. Ever since that episode, my port hurts everytime i bend at all. If I feel a cough coming on i get scared to death. i took wed off and was doing a little better until u guessed it, i had to cough yesterday...it almost felt like something was ripping in my port area and then that burning feeling. Guys i can't tell you how badly it hurts when I do something. I've had 3 kids and nothing compares to this pain. I'm calling dr again today and hope they tell me more than last time. Anyone had this much trouble with port? I'm wondering if he put it in the right place or is something wrong? thanks for listening!

lisa

I had discomfort/ mild pain when I laid on my left side for about 4 months post op but nothing like you're describing. Keep on the dr. to get in and made sure everything is alright..push for a scan or ultrasound to confirm it. good luck and keep us posted

hi i was banded 1.15 and my port still hurts a little, i cant bend fast, or too much because it hurts, and i am a belly sleeper, so its really uncomfortable, i try to sleep on my side or back and i have been losing some sleep because i dont feel comfortable and when unconciously turn completely... it hurts... it also used to hurt when i coughed, laughed or sneezed but it got better with time... i guess this is normal but if u are really uncomfortable and it hurts so much like u are describing, definitly talk to ur doctor... good luck!!!!!

I am almost 3 months out and I still have trouble with my port some days. I think it's because they have to "bury" it in the abdominal muscle. It kills me for days after I have a fill. Hopefully yours will improve soon.

Go to the drug store where they sell medical supplies and buy an elastic waste band that covers your whole mid section. I wore it for 2 weeks and never had a problem. My doctor sent me home with one that was made for bariatric patients. Best wishes and hope you feel better soon!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
