I'm like many of you. I have an addiction to food. It has been a source of comfort for me for many years. The only time I was able to not think about food was when I conciously decided not to and instead starved myself. But now that I know I'm going to deal with it. I have already started one of my new hobbies, pen palling. I love to write letters and figured it would be something good to fill the time when I would sit in front of the TV putting away all kinds of food. Now I can sit, listen to the TV and write a letter. Keeps everything active. I'm also hoping to take up golf as my husband is excited at the prospect of me walking 18 holes with him. I like the sport, just can't do the walking (lower back pain). I think the best thing is to know that you have had an issue and work on it the best way possible for you, because everyone is different. Oh and if anyone reading this is interested in becoming a pen pal (no e-mail) then send me a private message.

Half of the contacts in my phone were take out and delivery joints.

Congrats on your weight loss! I, too, can diet quite well. I could always lose the weight, just couldn't keep it off. I stopped doing fast food a while ago and it has really helped me, especially emotionally. I eat healthy foods only now. Again, congratulations and best wishes in your banding!!!

My thin sister who has never been even close to having any extra pounds obsesses over food. I had always assumed it was not an issue with her because she has always been so thin. Then when I got the band, we spoke and she said, "dont you think I am hungry? I am hungry all the time, I just dont eat".

I have noticed, even though I am not at goal that I no longer obsess over what I am going to get to eat each day. It use to start a couple hours after Breakfast, I would sit and plan which cafes I could go get lunch at and then which place to have dinner. My whole life was planned around eating. All the waitstaff around town knew me by name and when I do out out to eat now, they all comment on why they never see me anymore. I think they miss my tips.

Also had a funny thing happen the other day. Saw someone I hadnt seen in several months and he said, "you look so good girl. Lost all that weight, you have to let me take you out to eat". My reward to loosing weight? food. LOL

I have had a number of people over the years say that they obsess about food but just don't eat it. Sometimes they actually are eating it but have bulimia, sometimes they do something else like smoke, sometimes they spend way too much time talking about what good control they have. I had one very beautiful co-worker say she wished she could enjoy just one meal without worrying about the calories. We all have issues of one type or another that we are either in the process of dealing with, or are letting them over run our lives. Personally, I am a lot less obsessed with food after 4 1/2 months of banding. I love this and hope to be another size smaller by spring!!! Hugs!!!

JoJo, you give me hope that one day food won't control me but I'll control it! I was banded Dec. 16th and have had one fill and little to no restriction. I will get another 1.5 ccs on Monday, totaling 4.5 ccs. My doc does do fills every two weeks but my weight loss has stalled and like I said, NO RESTRICTION!!! Therefore I'm hungry but maintaining. Thanks for your post.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
