Arimidex, reflux and the band

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone here who is taking Arimidex? I am having nasty nighttime reflux that I believe is caused by the Arimidex and am hoping to find a solution or some way to make it less intrusive. (It's part of an ongoing treatment for breast cancer, so stopping the medication is not a good option.) Any suggestions?

I don't know anything about Arimidex but I have not slept in my bed a full night in a month. I take a prescription reflux med plus some OTC and other home remedies like not eating after certain times and I still choke half the night if I lay down. We have even elevated my head of my mattress but it isn't enough. I still end up trying to sleep sitting up until around 2 a.m. and then I can usually lay down the rest of the night. I have talked to my doc. She changed my meds. I am going today to get some OTC meds instead of the RX because my BIL who has had surgery for GERD says it is better. I am also headed to the health food store to see what they say. I would like to get another fill but I don't think I can until I have this resolved.

I would love any input on this as well.

I have been on femara for breast cancer since 2003. It did not cause heartburn from me, but being filled too much did. When I got an unfill, the heartburn resolved. This heartburn occured despite being on nexium.

I would say to anyone who has consistent heartburn to get an upper GI to see what is going on. You could have a hiatal hernia or you are just too tight.

It is dangerous to put up with constant reflux and heartburn. The esophagus is not made to withstand the acid. It can cause cellular changes which can lead to esophageal cancer. I know of what I speak, because my husband died of esophageal cancer at age 56 from years of heartburn and GERD and he tried everything to treat it.

Don't put up with being too tight to lose weight. It is not healthy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
