Ok, today I met with my surgeon and dietition for the first time!

I am so excited to start, but I'm always a little scared of the liver-reduction diet. OMG...I've done South Beach in the past, but this is No, No, NO carbs. It's going to be a struggle, but I'm so ready! My doc wants me to drop 20 pounds before my surgery. My insurance company is insisting on a six month Dr. supervised diet.

Happy to join this great community!

BTW, are there any August bandsters here? I haven't found a separate thread.

Kim

Hi Kim, you can do it!!!!! My insurance also requested monthly visits to my doctor and my surgeon wanted me to lose 30 lbs! So time passes and I lose, I gain, I lose and gain again. Fast forwad to 3 weeks before surgery and I still have to lose that 30 lbs. So I started the pre op diet a week early and lost the 30 requested by my surgeon and was told that my liver was beautiful :0)!!!

So don't fret, go into this with a positive attitude and you can do anything you set your mind to!!!

If you have any questions feel free to ask away and keep me posted on your progress.

Thanks for the encouragement!

The first day on the liver-reduction diet was HARD! I craved carbs all day, but I did well at work. When I got home, though, all bets were off. I struggled and ended up eating Cereal.

I think carbs work like a drug on us...I really feel like I was going through some kind of withdrawl. I was SO cranky!

Yesterday went much better, I managed to keep the cravings at bay most of the night. When it got bad, I went to bed. Praying for an even better day today.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
