1st fill question???

Recommended Posts

I am just curious and would like everyones opinion about getting my first fill...I am 3 weeks post op and have been feeling great...as a matter of fact I have been steadily losing about 3 pounds per week since my operation. I am suppose to be going back to see my doctor (I assume for a fill) after week 4 but I am not sure whether or not I need it! I have been logging everything on dailyplate.com and have been taking in 800-1000 calories every day. I don't find myself hungry all the time and if I am hungry, I will have a drink of Water, eat some greek yogurt, or just find something healthy to snack on. I have begun having the creamy Soups and today I moved up to grilled salmon...which I only ate half and felt completely satisfied...I wonder if I should return for a fill or just wait...Thanks for your advise in advance!!

Congratulations on your weight loss!

Question: Do you know if your doctor put any saline in your band when you had your procedure?

I guess it's possible that if so, you could be at your sweet spot right now. However, from what I've read, as you continue to lose weight, the fat pad around your stomach will shrink as well and therefore the band will feel looser, and then you will need a fill.

Also, at what point in your post-op diet are you at? I have moved on to soft foods (after mushies). At this point, I am only supposed to have 3 small meals a day (no snacks!) and I often get hungry between meals (I'm 3.5 weeks post-op so just about the same as you).

If your doctor said it was ok for you to snack at this point, then great. But my doctor said no snacking at this stage. So, I think if you didn't snack, you would probably be hungry between meals and then it's probably time for a fill.

Maybe you should call your doctor and ask for his opinion...maybe if everything is going well, why mess with perfection right?

I don't know whether my doctor put any saline in during surgery...forgot to even ask that question. Currently, I am in the mush stage of the post-op diet. My daily meals consist of (EAS Advantage Carb control for Breakfast...S.F. Jello pudding @ 10am., chicken or tuna salad lunch or baked fish with mushy broccoli @ noon, and a EAS shake again for dinner @ 5pm). I drink approx 40 oz of Water during the day, 16 oz. of Crystal Light per day. I have been averaging about 60-70 grams of protien and 40 grams of good carb average per day. In week 4, I go to one shake per day and two sensible meals per day (Turkey, chicken or fish) with Veggies. I agree with you in that "why would you mess with perfection" because I feel like everything is working better than I ever thought it would. I plan to call the doctor tomorrow and see what they suggest. I really appreciate your advice...Thanks and good luck with your journey!!

Most surgeons don't do a fill until around 6 weeks out. Yours might be different.

As to whether or not to fill: My surgeon and I always have a discussion when I go in about what and how much I am eating, and how much I am losing.

Based on that information we (well--I suppose he) decide if I am to get a fill and how much. I have never gone in expecting to get a fill and have him say no.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
