LONG plateau after 60 lbs lost~ need a kick start

Recommended Posts

I was banded in 2008 and lost about 60 lbs that year, right around my 1 yr mark, I got over-tight and started having "night cough", regular vomiting etc. I waited to long to deal with it and had to have 1/2 my liquid taken out. Fast forward 6 months. I am back at an optimum fill and can not lose any more, I gain and lose the same 3 lbs each month.

here is what I know...I eat TOO many carbs, my exercise is irregular at best, and I drink Alcohol (not too much)

Has anyone been there? how did you break through? :(

I am sorry to be this blunt but "STOP EATING TOO MANY CARBS!"

Eat your Proteins first and that will leave less room for the carbs.

Ok, when I am on a plateau, it really is usually because I have slipped into being lazy about my eating habits. In order to "re-set" myself, I do a few days of liquid, then move to mushies, and then work back to Proteins, the way I did in the beginning after surgery, but not the same length of time. For me, it helps me get re-acquainted with my band, and I spend that time listening to my body and my band so that we have a better relationship.

That is just my method. I have had so many plateaus, I can't count them anymore.

I wish you luck!

I have found it very difficult to focus too, especially after a length of time of not loosing because I'm not paying attention. Kick start by doing the 5 day pouch test....you can find info on the web...basically going back to the start and doing liquids, mushies, etc.

I just got a really good fill and I think I'm at my sweet spot, not really sure yet, but it's just been a little over a week. I'm also slogging my way through Beck Diet Solutions and there are some great trips for dieting and staying on track. Despite the band and people saying it's a lifestyle change...which is true, it's still dieting. You have to watch what you eat.

People here can help inspire you, but you are the one that has to do the work. Best wishes to you.

Kirafiki, ypur plan sounds do-able. I've been battling the same 5 # range for 6 months. I've dropped 2 sizes, had 3 fills, and had surgery(gall bladder) - but the scale doesn't move. Need to go back to basics.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
