You may think this is harsh, but think of the pre-op diet as getting you ready for the drastic change of eating habits you are going to have to stick to for the rest of your life! It starts now. Plus, part of the reason you are on the pre-op is to prepare your body physiologically for the stresses of the surgery.

Hang in there... your husband is SO RIGHT! Think end result and how much doing this is going to prove to yourself that you care about yourself enough to go through all of this to be healthy!!!

Get some Protein powder. It will help with the cravings. I use Elite whey Protein Isolate. Although they can be a little on the expensive side they do help. powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury is Medical Quality whey Protein Isolate. Best Tasting Whey Protein Powder. Most Trusted Whey Protein Powder Supplement. Check that website out. The chicken Soup flavored mix is awesome. It's another one I use also.

Hang in there. The wait is worth it.

Just remember the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver so your surgeon can more easily put the band around your stomach. There have been people on here who cheated on the pre-op diet and woke up after going under anesthesia ....with no lapband!! Their liver was too big......That kept me from cheating on mine!! Actually I did cheat once, and had a handful of nuts.....but thank God that didn't effect anything.

I'm totally with you. I am on Day 19 (out of 25) of a very, very difficult Preop diet. It is miserable. And the first 3 days were the worst. It does get easier. Your body does get used to it and the constant hunger gets better. The cravings do stick around though.

Just think how proud of yourself you'll be when you finish and know that you followed it perfectly. I feel like if I can go 3 1/2 weeks on this diet, I can follow whatever rules are placed upon me for the band. Plus, if anyone tells me that I took the easy way out, I want to be able to say that I went through a lot for this, and was able to do it.

Keep it up, it will get easier. I promise.

it gets easier, but not that much easier. Just stick to it. Its hard as hell but if you can't do this, it is going to be really hard for you to be successful with your band:biggrin:

It really is hard---no doubt about it. But it will be SO worth it to stick with the diet. Your surgery will be uneventful, and your recovery easier.

There will be time for pizza later in the game. Right now, you need to get yourself in the best possible condition for surgery.

When you reach the point, post-op, where you can have solid Protein, let me know and I will give you information to order a really good CRUSTLESS Chicago pizza that will make your heart sing---and do NO weight loss damage.

But for now--keep your eyes on the prize. Your liver will thank you!

Tell that devil on your shoulder to shove off...you came HERE and posted a thread instead of cheating. Great job! Trust me, the weight loss feels much better, and has more permanent rewards, than a pizza

I start mine on Saturday, 6 Optifast shakes a day! I too have been wondering how I will be able to do it without cheating, obviously I have cheated in the past! lol But like another response said, I do NOT want to be one of those people who wake up in the recovery room with NO band because I cheated! Also, I think about the fact that I will be that much closed to my goal

I was soooo happy when I made it through the pre-op! After I woke up my hubby told me my surgeon said it showed I did well on the pre-op because my liver was nice and small and easy to get around.

How nice that was to hear! Way better than worrying that I'd wake up with no band!

I read of a person on a different board whose liver split in two during RNY! I'd think that could be a very dangerous situation. Shrinking the liver helps to make it more flexible for the surgery so that won't happen.

You can do it! Keep your focus on your health. This time really sucks, and you have to power through it. Be strong and remember why you have fought so hard to get to where you are right now.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
