I did it!! Got my first fill........

Recommended Posts

All that worrying for nothing. I put on the Emla patch, and when I got to my appointment I saw a different doctor than the one I have been arguing with about numbing me first (see my previous threads regarding my needle trauma :-).

This doctor did not know I had patched myself, and after explaining my needle aversion to him (by the way, it's big needles that freak me out, not little ones), he agreed to a Lidocaine shot for me. But because of the Emla patch, I didn't feel the Lidocaine shot. And of course I didn't feel the needle for the fill at all!!

I got 1CC and I am home resting. Soft foods and liquids for 4 days. I am so excited to getting my first "kickstart"!!

Only bad news is that my scale is off from theirs, and I am certain theirs is more accurate. So I have only lost 21 pounds, not 25. I will have to change my ticker. But not for long!!

Thank you to all of my dear friends her who really helped support my fears and got me through the anxiety of my fill. I will not worry at all next time!

Heather,

Thanks so much for telling me about the first fill. I'm getting banded on Nov. 18th and I don't care much for the big needles either. Everyone has told me that it doesn't hurt, it's just a little sting, so I was hoping they were telling me the truth. You've done Great and keep up the good work. You should get a kickstart to losing more weight since you have to go back on liquids for a few days. Keep on letting us know about all of your success.

Darla

Hi Bensmum

So what is your advise to me (a total freak chicken) about the fill? I am getting my first fill this friday. I was going to take a Valium or something, but now I can't because I'm going there all alone : ( and I have to drive 3hrs there and 3 back home....

I doubt I can find any of that stuff you mentioned before my appointment.

Is it a prescription drug?

I don't know that it is prescription, Mercedes, because I did order it off of the internet. Go on the website and use the link that says "contact us" and see if they have a FedEx Overnight option. If you can't get it, go to your pharmacy and ask for it, and see if they will give it to you. At the very least, insist that your doctor give you a bit of Lidocaine!! Those shots, in my experience, don't hurt much.

I will say that even though I felt nothing, the experience itself was not as frightening as I expected. It took 10 minutes and I couldn't see what he was doing at all. I really worked myself up about it, and then it was pretty easy!!

bensmum! Glad your fill went well. Sorry you had to have a spat with the dr about getting numb. That's no fun!!!

I just saw Dr Cirangle today and got my second fill. This one was so easy I couldn't believe it. SUCH relief after my tough first fill.

Yay on your fill!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
