I eat anything and everything just like before. Just smaller portions. Although the difference now is because I'm eating smaller portions I'm hungry because my metabolism is actually working instead of just eating one big meal a day.

Red meat, bread, Pasta, rice, etc.. I've had it all with no problem. Portion Control is key and I truly believe alot of it is mind over matter.

The difference is that I now *THINK* before i put something in my mouth. It's nothing for me to skip bread because I know what it does to my body. And I LOVE bread.. it all seemed so hard before I was doing it, now I wake up in the morning craving a Protein smoothie. The changes in my diet have been delicious and great for me, I'm constantly getting compliments on my "glow" even when I have no make up on (or like yesterday just out of bed lol) and I can only attest that to eating natural and organic foods.

So there's an upside to those Protein shakes lol :( but you'll be fine and you'll do great. The Protein Shakes and cottage cheese are good for a quick and easy Protein fix.

Some people make it very clear that they use the lap-band® as a tool and something that helps with Portion Control. These people sound like they still eat most of the foods they did before just in a lot smaller amounts. Others make it sound like I will be eating cottage cheese and Protein shakes for the rest of my life.

If someone can only eat cottage cheese and Protein Shakes then they are over filled. This may be a deliberate choice on their part or just a misunderstanding of what restriction means.

I'm 3 months post op and very close to my 'sweet spot'. I have 8cc in a 12cc band. Even when I have temporary restriction, I can eat pretty much anything I could pre-band...just less of it. There are a couple foods (chewy breads, eggs, ground meats) that give me a problem no matter how small the bite or how well I chew, but I can still have just about everything else...just less of it.

We had a garlic chicken thin crust pizza the other night and I had 2 pieces (they were small). There was a time when I would've eaten half of a pizza...or more. The other night I ate 4 baked chicken wings. In the past I would eat a dozen...or more.

For me, when I have restriction, the band is about portion control. Even without restriction, I find I have to eat more slowly than in the past so that has helped limit the amount I eat even when I'm not restricted.

Marcox, I still eat burgers every now and then. I don't order them out, since sometimes the meat gets me stuck, but every few months, I'll have one at home. I can't finish a whole one, but eat about half (without the bread) and that takes care of the craving.

I also eat Mexican food regularly . . no problems there! I just order the stuff that works well with the band.

Hope that is helpful!

Catherine

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
