TMI Warning: Having a serious constipation issue. HELP!!

Recommended Posts

I've given the warning one but here again this may have TMI.

I had surgery last Wednesday and that is all good. My issue is poop. I hadn't gone for a few days before surgery and i wan not on a fasting diet. I ate two meals a day. I needed to go the day of surgery but I have issues going in places that are not home so I passed.

Today I was in so much pain all day that I couldn't stand straight. I've been trying to go for three days but nothing happens even with a lot of work. Today i took a full dose of MOM, no luck. I ate baby food prunes, no luck. I took a Fleet suppository, no luck. I took a Fleet enema, liquid only, but no luck a moving the block.

Has this happened to anyone else? What have you done to fix this? I am miserable!

I ended up taking the max dose of stool softeners, lots of liquids, and a suppository and that did it. If you still can't go, I'd be getting to the doctor. You've already tried quite a bit.

You poor thing. I use something my gyno told me about years ago. It's called a probiotic. Something to do with micro-organisim in the intestinal track. This isn't an immediate help unless you can find it at GNC or Vitiamin World but it works and I take it every single day!! Hope you have some relief soon - I know you pain all too well.

oh my god, i just had a huge problem like this a few mins ago, it was so painful, what you described sounded how i was, i couldnt stand straight either, i started getting weak, i thought i was going to pass out and vomit, it was so darn painful, so i worked my way to yell to my mom to get me something, the only thing we had was benefiber, it seemed to help in 5 mintues or less, so give that a try, try dulcolax if that dont work or try a colon cleanser?

Man I totally feel your pain. I was super regular before my surgery now I'm lucky if I can go every other day. I would say call the doc since you have done about everything else not forbidden by law. I just hope you get to feeling better.

Magnesium citrate. It is a clear liquid that you should be able to find at any pharmacy. It is what is used many times to "clean" you out if you are having surgery. Make sure you take it when you will be home for a while so when it works, you won't have problems.

Thanks y'all. I'm staying home today and calling the doctor. Nothing is working yet and I got no rest. UGGGGG!

Thanks again for all the input.

UPDATE:

I was sent to the ER when nothing else worked. Evidently it's pretty serious when nothing helps. I just got back and I had to give myself a soap suds enema. WOAH! That did the trick. I also have a super powerful laxative to take today.

I feel so much better!

Sorry to hear about the ER. Yuk. For the future I highly recommend Kleritea. It's all natural, really gentle and tastes really good. Plus, it helps you sleep. I found it when I went to a walk in clinic because my colon pain was so unbearable. I had to leave work. I was told to take all the usual suspects but over the counter medicine wasn't working well and it always came back to diet anyway. I felt I was way to young to be having these kind of issues so I researched and found dr natura dot com it's part of a colon cleanse that is amazing to say the least about it. You can just buy the tea and it works great for Constipation. I bought some for what I have been reading happens after the surgery.

Feel Better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
