First Fill and trying to get to know my new stomach

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill last week. 2cc's and I have 10cm band. I am really having a hard time with this eating thing because one time I eat I am stuck on the first bite. Another time I eat I am fine and no problems. But today alone I think I got stuck 3 times. Is there some sort of other reason for food to get stuck? I was miserable because it happened in front of a bunch of people who dont know I had surgery. I had to run to the bathroom.

I am chewing 30 times and the part I do not understand is I was eating over the weekend and feel as if I was following all the correct steps and my food did not get stuck. I am confused. Because there was not a big difference from what I was eating. I feel like my tummy is sore from my lunchtime episode too, is that normal after your food gets stuck?

I need guidance please:frown:

AND I hopped on the scale this morning and for the first time since pre-op and it shows I gained 1.5 lbs. WHAT???? I ate the same stuff over the last 2 weeks and lost weight. I am so confused.

I can't tell you why you're getting stuck, just take it slow and chew, chew, chew...if you continue getting stuck go back to liquids and advance slowly. And yes, you can have swelling after a stuck episode, again, back to liquids for 48 hours then advance to mushies x 48, the regular foods with cautions (my docs regimen at least).

Good luck!

Thank you. I have a plan now after reading some posts and your advice. They warn you and warn you but I don't think you truly realize what really happens until it happens to you. It really kind of freaked me out. This site is so nice because you really get good advice. Thanks again.

I also found that "cut your food into small pieces" and "eat slowly" were too vague for me. So I was having stuck episodes. So I finally figured out "cut your food into pieces the size of your smallest fingernail and only put 1 piece on your silverware at a time" and "eat no more than 3 or 4 bites in a row, then wait 60 seconds before you take another bite, when you have eaten 1/2 to 3/4 of a cup only take 1 or 2 bites then wait 60 seconds.

If I get stuck I have to have 2 days of warm liquids to be able to eat solid food again.

By the way I gained weight once I started eating solid food then when I had my 2nd fill I really started to get restriction and losing weight. Plus it could just be Water weight.

Very helpful information. I really want restriction but do not want to be in the bathroom all the time either!!! Thanks for your post!
