Getting Banded Set. 7th....yeeeaaahhhh

Recommended Posts

Had the surgery today at 10:30a.m. and made it home close to 1:00p.m. and I slept for awhile; I left with my wife to get some air. So far I am just sore by my port and I have 5 incisions. All I've had so far is gatorade, Water, slimfast and Jello. I was wondering can I have orange juice or is that to acidic.

Oh noooo!!!! Just kidding. You may be fine on it, but I had V-8 on day 4 and regretted it...too acidic! I'd personally hold off on the OJ for a while.

Congrats! Way to get banded, bigman!

I was told no acid for 2 the first 2 weeks. Be sure to check the food thread for food stages. Happy to hear you are doing well.

I found out I was not suppose to have a Protein Shake, gatorade or Jello until Wednesday and I had it late yesterday after I had my surgery, only Water for the first 2 days. But I am sore by the port incision and not at the other incisions. I am going to take the bandaging off and clean around the incisions. Any advise from you guys would mean so much. And thank you for your kind words I've recieved from you all!

Bigman, you are being banded in the same place I was... who is your doctor? Mine is Dr. Marsden. You must live in North Texas, too? I hope you are home and resting and doing fine...post when you can. Cindy

don't worry to much about what u did do, but watch what u do do! If you steri-stips on don't take them off, they will fall off on their own.. best of luck

It took about a week and a half for the pain to go away in that area. I spent many nights sleeping in my recliner because it was easier not to use my stomach muscles. But other then that I have not had any problems, I'm now in the mushy food stage , which is great! I had to go to the doctor to have him check out my incision area because I thought it looked infected (not) and I was already down 14 lbs. It such a wonderful feeling!! So I hope everything goes well with your recovery. Just think we all have finally made a positive decision about our health!!! Take care

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
