Could use some answers and support

I was banded 1/26. I'm 4 days out and miserable. I just came home from the hospital yesterday because I couldn't stop dry heaving. I'm nauseas all the time. I have chest pain (which the doc said was the band and would go away in a few days). I have diarrhea so bad I barely make it to the bathroom. I can't get all my fluids in as I'm so nauseas. Yesterday I drank 8 ounces of Isopure and a few sips of a Protein Shake. The doc gave me pills for the nausea - but they don't do squat. They did a ton a tests and my opening is open and the band is in the right place.

Is this normal? Any suggestions? I hate being this miserable.

Wow you are having a really hard time. Harder than most unfortunatly. The only advice I have is to work closely with your doctor. Also drink very small sips very slowly (I know you are probably already doing that). Keep us posted! All the best!

Ask your doctor for another anti-nausea medication. One will work. Once that happens you'll be able to drink more and feel much better. I felt like you for a few days and then it was much better.

I've heard of this antinausea patch that you wear behind your ear. Call him and get a new antinausea med. I would insist!!!

ps. I had liquid Phenergan.

I think it's funny when doctors give people anti nausea meds via pill form... do they really expect it to stay down long enough for it to start working? ha. My dr gave me compazine suppositories. Yeah it's not the most pleasant- but I was lucky enough only to have to use 1 one time post-op. But it may be worth a try to get some- if you can't get your Fluid in- dehydration is the worst! It will land you back in the hospital. Plus your body is already stressed b/c of the surgery. Good luck!

I had my surgery on Jan 11, 2010. Heard everyone talking about the Isopure drink so I tried it. After a couple days and bottle a day I realized it was causing my serious diarrhea. Once I stopped the diarrhea went away. Don't know what it was about that drink. Good Luck

See if your dr will call you in some phenegran (sp??) suppositories. I had horrible dry heaves and couldn't keep down the pills, but the suppositories worked magic on me. I was able to sleep and heal!!

Thank you again you guys :glare: I had my hubby post a thanks earlier - I just couldn't get up to get to the computer. Doc called me in a new script and it seems to be working but I'm taking it really easy just to be certain. I was actually able to have some chicken broth tonight! Who knew chicken broth could cause a happy moment?

DH & I decided that I should take it easy tomorrow as well and just try to get my Protein in. Monday we'll work on moving around and stuff.

Thank you for the Isopure input. I quit drinking it and that part is doing much better now too. Sucks though, that stuff had 15g Protein. I'll keep looking around

I don't post a lot but I read tons on here and want to say thanks again for the support and for those asking the questions that rage in others brains. I'm quickly learning that without support - banding would be 100 times harder.

I'll keep you posted

I woke up feeling good and rode along to the grocery store. Came home had a 6 ounce shake and some chicken broth. Horrible ever since. major back pain that goes around to the front - all along my bra line.

Can't get my Water in and am worried about blood clots or anything else. Ideas?

Thank you!

How long did it take you to drink the shake and broth? This soon after surgery, I was still drinking about 2 ounces at a time.

The pain is probably referred pain from the band irritating your stomach and diaphragm. Try sleeping on a heating pad, it did wonders for my back, chest and shoulder pain. Are you still on pain meds? I couldn't tolerate them, so I went on liquid tylenol around the clock to help with the inflammation.

I did drink the 6 all at once. Too much too soon. Thank you for confirming that. I will try to get my hubby to go get me a heating pad too.

You should really start feeling better in a few days. I wanted to jump in and drink a lot because I felt so dehydrated. My dr told me to sip on caffeine free tea, and not worry about a lot of Protein Drinks until I was feeling better.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
