I will be starting eating regular food next week and am wondering if most of you are able to eat Beans and salads once you were able to eat normal foods.

I eat both Beans and salad, but it seems to be different from one person to the next. I try to limit the salad - I eat a couple of bites then give the rest to hubby so that I can eat my Protein.

I eat Beans easily and actually crave them since I got banded.

As a side note - I had refried beans while I was on mushies post op.

Good luck on your journey!

I'm not completely on "normal" foods for 2 more weeks and my doc won't allow salad until then. But, now at 6 weeks post-op, I eat Beans A LOT...possibly too much if ya know what I mean....I've always liked beans but now I'd eat them all the time if I could. I don't seem to want meat as much as I want to so beans, cheese, and eggs with a little meat are my Proteins for now....

I am about 6 weeks out, had one fill (3cc in a 10cc Lapband), and I can eat Beans and salad no problem. I've been eating beans for a long time already, but the dieticians had said to wait one month for salad. I finally had my first salad tonight and it went down great, no problem at all.

Beans, Beans i LOVE beans - i had a bowl of great northern beans with ham tonight and I have in a pinch had the taco bell pintos and cheese for lunch. I haven't had any problems with beans.

Like another poster said I really limit salad and I wasn't given the green light until 1 month post op. If I have salad I order a chopped salad.

No problems on either but I chew, chew, chew

I'm a vegetarian so Beans are a staple in my diet. I can eat pinto, baked, kidney, red bean, etc. I try to get in some form of beans every day, simply because they are a good source of Protein and Fiber for me. I haven't had any problems so far and I had some veggie chili last night - a day after my first fill. I think I will try out salad this week, but I've heard some people refer to it as a slider food, so I'm not sure.

I also love Beans and really need the Protein and fiber so I am trying black beans this week.

A couple of weeks ago, my daughter, who does not know I am banded, wanted to meet up with me whille we were both in town and have lunch... Since I don't see her often I agreed. We went to Rubio's which is like a beach themed taco place. I ordered a small "thing" of black Beans for .50 and a "street taco" and it was delicious and just the right size. The container of beans is about the size of what most places give you salsa in.. Maybe 2 ozs... and the taco was like 2 1/2 inches long with shredded pork, a touch of guacamole, onions and cilantro... real small. My Daughter kept asking me if I wanted a couple more when I was finished eating... I didn't tell her that I was so full I felt uncomfortable... I just smiled and kept saying No Thank You... It felt wonderful to eat out and have such a small portion. I used to go to taco bell and have 3 regular tacos, a bean burrito and cinnamon twists! Haha... Not anymore!!!

kansas, do you make your own Hummus or is there a really good brand to buy? I love Hummus and tried to make it once and it just wasnt the same as this one restauraunt I used to get it at that has now closed... I tried the one from costco and it tasted rancid... I was surprised becasue Usually Costco is my no fail place to get delicious food! I would love a recipe if anyone has a good one! ANd what do you eat it with thats healthy. The restauraunt used to serve it with hot homemade indian bread which is thin almost like a pita... I'd like a healthier alternative... Maybe just eat it plain? like a side dish?

I do make my own but have bought the Sabra brand at costco, I find the other one a bit too harsh. I can dig up my recipe.

I eat hummus with flax seed chips, the multi grain chips at costco, radishes, califlower, or I bake my own chips by broiling whole wheat flat out bread or tortillas.

Yummy Thanks! I've never tried the flax seed anything... Maybe I'll give them a try.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
