I haven't seen anyone mention this, but I was wondering if anyone has problems with deli meat once past the mush stage? I was thinking that slices of turkey or ham would be good protein...am I right?

Hi carmen74,

I ate deli meat when I got into my solid food stage and was fine eating it. However, now that I've had my second fill (6cc in an 11cc band), I am very restricted and getting down any kind of meat down is hard on me. I go for fish and extremely tender dark chicken or turkey; the white meat is too hard on me.

They are if you can handle them. I have trouble but I can eat things others can not. Also choose fresh meat as often as you can since it has less salt etc. Nothing better than fresh anyway. I buy chicken breasts and then put them in the crock pot and then put the leftovers in small one cup plastic dishes to take to work. It works well for me. I also do this with round steak, and cube steak. Pork would also work well. Best of luck!!!!

My surgeon told me to eat the thinly shaved meats at that stage.

I eat deli chicken almost everyday. Mostly b/c it's high in Protein and easier than cooking. White chicken doesn't always like me but deli meat is okay.

I'm still a newbie so no personal advice but wanted to share that thinly sliced deli meat is actually on my doc's mushy stage list so I imagine it's pretty safe. Like PP said though, once you're restricted, things can change.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
