My post op diet has so far consisted of sugar free Jello, Sugar Free pudding, Crystal Light Popsicle, chicken broth and now Campbells Soup At Hand Tomato. Of course EAS Advant Edge Protein Shakes too but I'm wondering what else I can add to make this liquid diet less restrictive.

What did you eat post op?

If you like refried beans...mix chicken broth in a food processor with fat free refried Beans and salsa and puree until smooth...as you progress you can add less broth and make it a little thicker so it fills you up better. I also added a spoonful of low fat sour cream after I heated it up for the richness.... I also made a squash Soup with a chicken broth base that you pureed until smooth, again, as I got further out put less chicken broth in to thicken things up a bit....sorry I don't have more suggestions!

My favorite thing when I was on liquids was to make Mrs. Grass chicken noodle Soup without the noodles, so it was just broth (you could also use Lipton). This broth is so much tastier than the plain chicken broth you buy in the container or buillon. It was warm, savory, and NOT sweet (I am not a fan of sweet, creamy flavors so struggled with the liquid phase since most of it is sweet). Just watch the sodium, especially if you have high blood pressure.

Another idea that I liked was plain Greek yogurt (non-fat) -- you need to thin it out alot with skim milk and add just a touch of Splenda to get rid of the sour taste. This has 10 grams of Protein per serving - you will probably be able to eat 1/2 a serving.

One more idea is Cambell's cream of asparagus or cream of broccoli soup -- add skim milk to thin it out and then put in blender to grind up the chunks, then strain through a strainer. I prepared full cans like this and then had enough for 3-4 meals.

I was also allowed applesauce which I found refreshing since it wasn't creamy. There is a sugar-free cinnamom apple sauce that is very good and only has 50 calories.

Good luck - and just remember this phase will pass before you know it!

I just put whatever the family was eating in the blender and thinned it down usually with broth. I some times added velveeta cheese to boost the Protein some. I used the Soup to go stuff too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
