Ok, so I am having my first fill on Monday. What should I eat that morning. I have the fill at 1:00. I don't want to get sick, any suggestions? Did you have pain? What will it be like? As you can tell, I am a little nervous.:smile2:

I think you can eat whatever you want before a fill. I just had my first fill today and wasn't given any limitations as to what I could eat before. I ended up just having some cottage cheese for Breakfast because I was running late and it was the fastest Protein I could get. In hindsite, I wish I ate a heartier breakfast because I can only have Clear Liquids after the fill now and I'm hungry!

You can eat anything before the fill but yo go on liquids for a day or two after the fill. Good luck.

My instructions were liquids only two hours prior to a fill.

As far as getting sick or having pain...not at all to both questions. I've had several fills, and they've always been quick and painless.

A fill is very easy. Don't be nervous. You are given a local before the fill. The needle will be long but don't get frieked out. You won't feel a thing! Just think, you may feel some restriction. Of course everybody is different. It took a second fill for me to have any restriction.

Call your Dr office and ask for specific instructions, mine were no solids the day of the fill, liquids only and fast for 2 hours before then liquids for 1 day after and mushies for 1 day.

Here is what I learned after my first fill. The directions of cut your food into small pieces and eat slowly were too vague.

1) Cut your food into pieces the size of your small fingernail.

2) No more than 1 fingernail size piece of food per spoonful or forkful. This includes mushies.

3) No more that 4 bites then rest for 60 seconds.

Good luck.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
