protien for clear liquids post op

Recommended Posts

Hi all! I'm just a week away from surgery and I am curious as to what protien you are using or will use during your clear liquid phase post op. I'm having a hard time deciding on one. Please give your opinions Thanks!

I go in on Feb 2nd, excited and scared all at once. The Atkins ones are not to bad and I also tried the Carnation Light which have been good. I tried one from the lady from biggest loser but could not keep it down, it was so nasty! I have struggled finding the right one as well, so many out there.

Isopure is a clear liquid and the Special K makes a mix in, however it only has 5g per 16 oz of Water. Not really worth it to me. I also get these packets from Walmart - Search results for Beneprotein - Walmart You can mix them into your jell-o or in anything really.

You can also try the Protein shots from Walmart called Super whey Protein by Body Fortress. It has 26g per vial and has 110 cals. They are only 1.99 each too.

Hi, I think everyone has different tastes, but I agree with an earlier reply that the ones from Biggest Loser are aweful. I have found that Nector brand "Strawberry Mousse" is really good and Stack brand "Chocolate" and they are even good mixed together. My doc told us to make sure we are taking in 30 g of Protein a shake(2-3 shakes a day)and to check the sugar in them and make sure they have less than 6 g per serving. Also you can make them with 4-6 oz. of Water, that is easier to drink than a big watery shake. There are tons of flavors out there, so I found a store that lets me taste test them, if you are interested in getting samples from her then write me back and I will email you the website! Good Luck and remember your tastes will change after the surgery!

Everyone's going to tell you something different.

However, if you buy a basic vanilla flavored mix...you can add anything you want to it, and make it any flavor!

Check with your surgeon. Many do not okay adding Protein to Clear liquids. The rationale is that Clear Liquids are intended to give the digestive tract a rest. Protein supplements, though easily absorbed, still require digestive effort. They still produce residue.

To my surgeon, clear liquids meant NO protein--just standard clear liquids.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
