"Creamy foods" stage ideas!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!

I was really struggling getting used to the creamy foods, because I couldn't find anything that didn't totally gross me out. Plus, I was seeing other people eat the foods that I love, like mexican and italian, and knowing that I couldn't have any of it. So I played around with some ideas and came up with two solutions to appease my cravings for real food when I could only eat stuff with the consistency of baby food. let me know what you think!

For those who love Mexican food:

2 tablespoons fat-free refried Beans

1 teaspoon campbell's canned cheddar cheese sauce

1 tablespoon mashed avocado

1 tablespoon fat-free sour cream

Layer refried beans and cheese sauce, microwave for 30 seconds, then layer avocado and sour cream and enjoy! Makes about a 1/4 of a cup, which is perfect to keep me full for hours. Be careful adding hot sauce, as I've heard that spicy things can cause indigestion while your stomach is healing from surgery.

And when I'm craving italian, I take a scoop of polenta mush, a scoop of fat-free ricotta, and a scoop of marinara sauce and sprinkle with a bit of parmesan. Yum!

So far, I'm a week post-op, and have gone from 245 to 229! I love my band, but I can't wait for solid food again! Good luck everyone!

For some reason, avocado is on my doctor's "avoid" list for the mushy stage. I haven't been able to ask why yet. Anyone know?

chicken Tortilla Soup

1 can 98% fat free cream of chicken Soup

1 can cream of cheddar soup

5 oz enchilada sauce (probably should use mild but I used med)

1 can fat-free or 2% milk

Heat and eat!

This got me through my 2nd and 3rd week of my liquid diet--I was to only eat cream Soups, along with Protein drinks and drinkable yogurt. It's great--I just didn't eat the few little chicken chunks in the cream of chicken soup, but you could also strain it if you want.

Yum! Did you have any problems with the heat from the enchilada sauce? I'm craving spicy, but I haven't gotten the guts to try anything hot yet. I don't know how common it really is to have stomach upset with spices post-op, but I certainly can't do bland foods for life!

I also love spicy foods--the medium enchilada sauce didn't bother me at all, and my doc didn't tell me I couldn't spice foods up. I really love this Soup when I'm forced to eat nothing but cream soups!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
