Worried about weightloss

Recommended Posts

I have been reading several post on this website, that indicate that a lot of people really don't lose that much weight with the lap band. Some people have no lost any weight, others have only lost a bit in the beggining and then stop losing, and others have even continued to gain. Almost everyday, there is another post stating that they are having problems with weight loss. I am worried that I will spend all this money (self pay) and this will be another failed attempt to lose weight. I can't afford to fail at this. Is there a lot of people that do not reach there goal? I try and focus on the positive results, and I have seen post where people have lost a lot of weight and look amazing, but for every, one sucessful weight loss post, there are three or four unsucessful weight lost post. Please Help with any advice or info.

The only way to succeed with the lapband is to have the right attitude and make a lifestyle change where you are eating healthier, smaller portions, and getting some exercise in. If you get the band thinking your days of dieting are over, you probably won't succeed.

That being said, this tool can help you a great deal if you work with it. There are definitely people who don't follow the rules and don't lose all their weight. It is really up to you, for the most part.

Also, keep in mind that a LOT of people won't get online and find a forum about lapbands unless they are having issues. Some of us here just like forums and are on for the support, but some people of online and search for answers when they are having problems. I would bet there is a LARGE majority of people who do not log on because they are not having problems. So, keep that in mind also.

I'm 54 yrs old and have struggled with weight problems for many years. Lapband was not an easy road to take but it helped me to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It's work. A person has to be very diligent in making good/healthy choices, follow the band rules set up by their doctor. We need to set our sights on our goal and work until we achieve it. And, when there are setbacks, get back to basics and restart the plan. Not always easy but doable.

Good luck!

In my reading over the past year I've come to realize that failure to lose weight with the lapband falls in the following categories:

- Physical issues

- Proven broken lapband

- Medical mistakes whilst installing of filling lapband

- Patient's ignorance/insufficient research

- Patient's laziness/stubbornness/lack of will power

The vast majority fall into the latter two categories.

A ton of people, cliche intended, failed to do sufficient if any research. They were looking for an easy way out and thought that all they had to do is have this magical ring placed inside them and the would wake up svelte in less than a year.

They do not or cannot grasp the concept that losing weight has to do with burning more calories than you consume and has little to do with how many cc's of fairy dust are inserted into their magic ring.

These people are not hopeless, they just need a lot of research and a little education on how to use the tool that they now possess.

The lazy / stubborn / will powerless crowd refuse to believe that the lapband is only a tool and that they actually have to work at losing the weight or they know what needs to be done and don't have the will power to do it.

These people are also not without hope but the resolution to their problems can most likely only be achieved by therapy or maturity.

Both require a bunch of support. The stubborn can get frustrating but they either come around or go away sooner or later.

My two cents: Weight loss is difficult, as the past poster said, you have to be diligent this is not a MAGIC band. Neither GB or RNY or the band will make the weight go away there are things one HAS to do inorder to facilitate that loss.

I for one had to change my whole life inorder for this to work...its working albeit slowly but I am thankful for every inch and every pound loss.

I had to stop smoking, I had to change my sedintary life style and start moving and I had to stop the late night eating and junk food snacking. Was it easy? Hell no.. but its almost two years and I am so much better as a human being, so much healthier and happier. If its just about weight then re-think your options becaue these are life long changes that neeed t be made in order to have any success. If you don't move, you won't loss.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
