Need Help and Direction

Recommended Posts

I have not visited for some time. I had my surgery on 10/29/09. I lost most of my weight - I had to keep it off - right around my surgery - like 25 lbs. I have lost 15 more lbs and have not lost anything since. My band is TIGHT!!! Boy do I know what restriction feels like. I have my last fill in Sep and my band did not feel this tight. I do not know what changed - but something did. It is super tight. Basically just eating Soup and drinking Protein Drinks - low fat and low sugar ones - EAS. To make sure I get in my Protein. BUT I am NOT LOSING WEIGHT. I know I need to exercise badly. I guess I would think if I am hardly eating anything why would I not be losing weight - weird! What is the magic calorie limit? What foods are ones that will trick your body - Please someone help me! I need to lose about 80 more lbs. I know exercise is an absolute - starting the WII Fit et tomorrow morning. I drink my fluids for sure. Just need some guidance. Good news is my Diabetes is totally under control! YEAH and I have lost 40 lbs - but I have been at the same weight for few months.

Thanks! Molly

Hey Molly, The nurse who does my fills told me that if I was too tight and all I could do was drink Protein drinks and eat "slider" foods that it would really slow down my weight loss. She said "we want you on healthy foods, foods that you can live with forever". Plus she is a lap band patient as well. You might want to get .5 cc removed and see if that helps. I shoot for 700-1000 cal a day, but I think where they come from helps too. Plus, I dont exercise like I should either........

Congrats on the diabetes! Plus dont forget how much 40 lbs is! When I get discouraged I get 2- one pound packages of hamburger out of the freezer, stand in front of the mirror and hold them up to my butt and go "see what 2 lbs looks like, and I have lost ____ lbs! See how good I am doing!" This always makes me feel better.

We were banded right around the same time! I lost about 17 pre band and so far 32 post-op, so we're right about the same weight loss wise :-)!

I agree with Leigh that you might be too tight. You are clearly so restricted that you're not able to 'chew' your Protein, which is very important for us bandsters. I know I'll be holding onto my restriction for dear life (if I ever get it LOL), but it sounds like you might need a tiny tweak just so you are able to get solids down.

I have been doing 800-1000 calories a day, which seems to be working. I have upped the Protein is well, which seems to have kicked the plateau aside (this week at least!)

Congrats on losing the 40! That's so exciting to hear about your Diabetes being gone too!

Good luck and keep us posted!

Sounds like you need to jumpstart your metabolism. Try walking at least 20 minutes a day. You throw in a little change to your body to awaken it! Research metabolism and see what you find out...and I would .5 removed so you could do some chewing!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
