11 days post-op - have not lost any weight!!

Recommended Posts

I am 11 days post-op. Just came back from a follow-up appointment. While I have healed well - I haven't lost any weight since the pre-op diet. :smile2:

Thankfully - I haven't put any on either. My surgeon is not worried about it - but I am. I am still on mushies. He has asked me not to worry about it for another 2 weeks.

Is this normal?? Anybody else there in my boat??

Ditto! I was banded 1/15/10 and I haven't lost any weight. In fact, I gained a few pounds right after surgery and lost it, but have gained it since! How is that possible??!! My Dr told me not to worry about it too, but come on!!!!

Hey guys...just continue to stick to your doc's menu and rules and don't look at the scale right now. Your body just went through surgery and is most likely in protection mode and most likely retaining fluids. Just make sure to get enough liquids, get your rest, make good/healthy choices with your food and you will soon see results.

Take care and good luck!

no worries all i gained weight for like 2 full weeks after surgery. - I'm only barely over a month out and down 30 pounds. Watch what you eat and hit the gym - you need to know your target heart rate and go get a good workout in.

I've found after reading everyone else's Dr's requirements that mine is quite harsh. I'm on liquids ONLY for 21 days post-op. And it has been very tough. But I have lost 8 lbs since surgery and 10 in my pre-op diet. But I put on 2-3 lbs right after surgery which freaked me out! But I think it was just my body healing. I would suggest keeping a journal of everything you are eating. I use Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com. I'm addicted. I've found lots of mushies can be high in calories- same with liquids so I'm keeping an eye on it... Try that. AND start working out. Walking is a great start if you are as out of shape as I am! I am a 90210 junkie and love watching the old episodes. To make myself work out I only watch it on my treadmill. A simple walk will get your heart rate up.

I was banded Dec 9th and had some heart issues not related to the band surgery, At first I did not loose any weight my doctor said let your body go thru the healing process. He was right I lost over 35lbs the 1st month no heavy exercising only walking.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
