Is my band irritated and swollen or something else happens?

Recommended Posts

My band has been working fine up until I threw up due to food stuck last night (4 times from the same stuck). After that, I had these gurgling sounds and kept burping. Burping is not normal for me since after band, I hardly burp anymore. This morning, I still have the gurgling sounds, burping and when I try drinking warm tea, my chest hurts so badly.

Has this ever happen to you after throw up? I phone the doctor and I am still waiting for someone to call me back.

Thanks,

If you threw up 4 times from one stuck episode.. there is a really good chance that your pouch is very irriatated and swollen... I would stick to liquids for at least 24 hrs to allow the swelling and inflammation to go down...

That has happened to me. After I have an episode of being stuck and throwing up I always have to go to liquids for at least 24 hrs to let my band heal-lose the swelling from the trauma of throwing up. The gurgling always happens when I swell up. It is easy to make things worse if you eat solids and get into an eating and throwing up phase and never allow the swelling to go down. I've heard of people having to get all their fill removed and start from the beginning. Be careful and take it really really slow with liquids and then mushies.

Thank you so much for answering my questions. I felt better today but I am still on liquid diet and tomorrow, I am going to try mushy food.

Yesterday was kind of hard for me because I ran out off Slim Fast (I bought 2 big cases from Sams in November). I went to the grocery store and to my surprise, they pull Slim Fast off the shelves for now due to bacteria contamination. I've tried Atkins but it was horrid, so I dump it all. I cannot wait till Slim Fast is back on the shelves.

Thanks again,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
