I almost had lapband in June 2009. I started the pre-op diet and scheduled my surgery, but then I chickened out. Mostly because I'm afraid of having gas and vomiting for the rest of my life.

Here are my questions:

1. How often does gas and vomiting occur?

2. Also, can you see the port below your skin; is it obvious?

3. How long were you out of work?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi There-

I had surgery Dec 15th so I may not be the best to answer your questions but I'm on full foods.

The vomiting - I haven't had/done any.

The gas - that dissipated after the 2nd week after surgery

My doc gives everyone 3 weeks off after surgery, I however asked to go back after 2 weeks I was just so bored.

You cannot see my port- it you push around hard I can feel it but thats it. First fill is scheudled 2/2 feel free to ask me questions,.

I was banded Jan. 8th, 2009 and have lost 85 lbs. so far. The gas after my surgery was gone in a few days and the pain from the surgery itself was only bad the first 2 nights. After that I was just sore for about a week to 10 days. I started exercising at about 3 weeks out (brisk walking). You certainly cannot see the port below my skin. As a matter of fact, mine is difficult for them to find. I don't work, but I think my doctor lets patients go back to work between 10 days and 2 weeks. It depends on how well you are doing. It really was easy for me. I didn't have any problems. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me @ dizlizd@aol.com. ;)

Hey there! Good luck with your decision. I was banded on 12/16/09 and am down 29 pounds, a million to go.

I have not vomited once. Gas from the surgery was over in a week or so. I do burp a lot and my stomach gurgles (loudly at times) but neither bother me

I can feel my port but not unless I'm really looking for it. I cannot see it or in irregularity in the skin above/around it.

My surgery was on a Wednesday, I was back at work full time on Monday. I stand/walk almost all day and the first 2 days were exhausting but by day 3 (1 week post-op) I was fine.

Good luck!

Gas: I barely had any gas pain after surgery.

Vomiting: I have only vomited once, after my hysterectomy that was 7 months after being banded: I have, however pbed a few times. This, however, only occurs when I become too tight (eating while stressed or aggravated) or eat incorrectly (maybe once a month) I do not keep my band tight, because I want to be able to eat what I want.

Port: can't be seen, but I can feel it

Work: I am a teacher, and I had my surgery during the summer; I would've, however, probably needed about a week off, but most say they need less than that

I have not regretted having my surgery at all. It is the best thing that I have ever done for myself!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
