Odd thing happened last night

Recommended Posts

Last night I drank some Water while in bed. I propped myself up on one arm and drank a few sips. I will say I was very thirsty so I may have been a bit tight for this reason.

The water wouldn't stay down, I was almost refluxy.

Has this happened to any of you? It was quite scary and I wondered what went wrong?

I had a problem with waking up coughing about 3 hours after I went to bed, getting acid reflux. My doc recommended trying no fluids for 1 hour before bed and no food at least 3 hours before bed. It did help, but if it continues, you may need to get a very slight unfill to take care of the problem. p.s. I never drink in bed, even when I'm thirsty. I don't want a repeat of those episodes.

I agree! Definately do not drink in bed! I was also told no drink for 1 hour before and no food for 3 hours before bed. It has definately helped me with the reflux in bed! It's not a fun experience, I know!!! Good luck!

I sleep with a wedge pillow. Seems to eliminate this problem for me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
