Rate of Weight Loss??

Recommended Posts

My wife and I were discussing my band and she asked whether my progress was normal.

I was banded on 12/30 and have lost between 15-17 pounds since the procedure.

I go for my first fill in a couple of weeks. From everything I've read, I thought your progress up until the first fill would be pretty static and then progress after each successive fill.

Anyone have any advice or info they can offer? Thanks.

I started my pre-op diet on 12/31 and was banded 1/7. I've lost 19 pounds so far...it's the liquid diets, the loss of a swollen belly, change in diet, etc. I've been losing about a pound a day, but I know that will change rapidly once my body gets used to all that. Average weight loss, long term, is 1-2 pounds a week for LapBand patients. I go for my first fill 2-6-10, but I know this amazing weight loss I've seen already won't continue!

It can go either way. You are on the fortunate side to take what you've got and run with it.

It all depends on how much a person needs to lose. I had 250 plus to lose so the weight has been falling off. But its starting to slow down to 3 lbs a week. And Im sure it will slow down even more. If someone has 100 or less to lose Im sure it wont fall off as quick...Just my opinion

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
