Fluid loss,, now too much ?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So I posted the other day about the Dr. thinking if was losing Fluid - only pulled out 2 when he should have pulled out 4.5.

He put the 2 plus 2 more back in , for a total of 4. That was on wednesday - and as of today i still cant eat anything solid no matter how small the bite or how much I chew - I have been living on protien shakes and yogurt and Soup. while im not really complaining, this surely has to the get scale moving again - but how can i go from no restriction and loss of fluid to 4 cc being too much? How many days should i wait to see if it improves and i can eat something that requires chewing ?

Well you have to keep in mind that although you had 4.5 in your band previously...when you had no restriction you only had 2 in your band...so putting 4 in is doubling what you were used to. I've only been too tight one time and it was to the point I couldn't get sips of Water down without even hiccuping. I waited 4 days before I went back to the doctor out of fear of dehydrating. It was awful. If you can get some nutrition down without any problem I would give it a couple of weeks. I'm sure it will loosen up and it will be a great jumpstart and motivator for you!

How long did it take to go from 4.5 to 2? That is alot of fluid loss unless maybe it had been 3 or 4 months since your last fill?

I am totally using this as a motivator!! lol, just wasnt sure if i should be concerned or not. It is hard to say when the loss of Fluid happened, my first fill was in nov 5 weeks post op, 4cc and my second was 5 weeks after that .5cc - at the second fill i did not check the fluid amount so i am not sure if it was lost at the first fill or after the second -thanks for the advice.

You probably did lose some after that first fill. I always ask the doc to see what's in me before I decide how much fill I want him to give. For example if I got a fill of 5.0 previously and I was tight then and hadn't lost much weight and only have 4.8 then I only go up to abou 5.2. But if I've lost over 10lbs then I go up about .5 cc because as you lose weight you will need more of a fill. I guess i'm just cautious because I've been overfilled and that was miserable.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
