What the heck is "PBing"???!!!!

Recommended Posts

HI - I'm new here. Shooting for being banded on 12-2-05 and am from north of Sacramento, California. There is a lot of helpful information here but there seems to be this coded language that I can't figure out!! So, please tell me, what is PBing? How does it happen and what do you do when it does happen?

PBing is Productive Burping. It is kind of like throwing up but you get the slime mouth and eye watering along with it. This happens when you maybe eat too fast or don't chew something well and swallow. It gets stuck and won't go down. It is very painful(I had one and only one with rice and I was asking for death to come take me quickly LOL). It felt like to me I was having a heart attack. I couldn't breathe but it came back up and out, LOL. Trust me you don't want one. It is inevitable though because you don't really know what you cannot tolerate anymore until it happens. I have a problem with rice, and eggs. I used to love those foods but now they are evil. LOL

Hope this helped.

I live in Yuba City which is 45 miles north of Sacramento, but I work in Sacramento almost every day. I just had my appointment with Kathi Lorenz in Roseville yesterday and she is just amazing, more helpful than I imagined. I went in thinking, oh, just a few questions and get it over with, but I was so moved by our discussion that I plan to see her again after surgery. She will be having groups after the first of the year. I will be having surgery December 2 with Dr. Helmuth Billy in Truckee. He also has an office in Ventura. I had sorta-kinda decided on him preliminarily and during my research I spoke with Don at Inamed in San Diego and he had said his wife was banded the week before by Dr. Billy, so that just kind of solidified it for me. I see that you are about 10 days post-op....how are you doing? Can you tell me about your first week? I'm nervous! Any advice would be very much appreciated and please feel free to message any time. Kim

Sorry - I should mention that Kathi Lorenz was the psychologist that Dr. Billy recommended in Roseville! Funny how initially I was brushing off the whole idea of seeing her as just a hoop to jump through prior to surgery and seriously, the whole way driving home I was like Wow! That was life changing. I completely underestimated the role of that consultation. Her comments just clicked with me about "escaping" with food and I now know that this is a two-pronged (at least!) approach for me.....the band will help me stop binging physically, but her tools for the emotional component will help to finally DEAL with WHY I want to eat so much. For whomever and whatever this is worth - make the most out of this extremely valuable avenue. Kim

1st week was good - hard to stand after the surgery - had to have a catheter (eck) - as far as eating goes, I wasn't hungry at all - just sipping Water and eating my crushed ice kept me pretty busy. your stomach will hurt at the incisions but not a lot since you stay drugged up for awhile - after that the only hard part is using your abdominal muscles to help sit, lay back, stand, etc. as they are still healing.

Oh and as I'm typing my wife reminded me about the gas - the gas is the worst!!! but the pain meds do help! you'll be so ecstatic when you release your first gas - either burp or the other side - feels soooo good.

is that TMI?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
