Hey Bandsters!

I was wondering if you knew of any Protein Bars (that taste good) that are lapband friendly ( im going on a airplane and i need Snacks, damn layovers). I dont know if this makes a difference but i was recently banded on Dec 23rd so im a little concerned about the consistancy on the Protein Bar it self.

Thanks

First of all...be careful on the Protein bars as they can become addicting. But, they are a great Meal Replacement for times when I am out and about. I have relied on them many times and even "skinny" DH eats them a couple of times a day and for Breakfast. These are some of the ones I like:

Pure Protein (20gr protein)- Walmart or Amazon.com

Aitkins (17gr) Walmart or Amazon.com and GNC

Myoplex Lite (15gr) Same as above

All of these fall into the 180-200 cal range

Aitkins

My favorite are Supreme Protein bars (the Peanut Butter and the caramel nut are my favorites). They are about 200 calories I think and have a small amount of sugar (some sugar alcohols). My nutritionist approved them. I have them for Breakfast when I'm loose enough, along with a yogurt mixed with a little fruit - other mornings I need to do a smoothie.

These have a great taste - not the taste a lot of Protein Bars have. The Peanut Butter is my top choice, easier to chew than the caramel nut some days. I live in the Midwest and get these from my local grocery store, Hy-Vee.

HTH!

I swear by the myoplex lite bars. Very little fat, 20 g protien and they taste fairly good. Atkins bars have significant fat. You can get them at Walmart. Have a great trip!

I keep many flavors of the Atkins around at work for busy days, but sometimes (especially soon after banding) they were too dense for me and felt too dry - I was trying hard to get used to the no-drink thing.

When I traveled last April, was banded in January 09, I brought a package of the Hillshire ultra thin turkey, a baggie of shredded cheese, and a baggie of Wheat Thins. They kept me feeling great, and didn't get stuck.

Have a good trip.

when i traveled a couple of weeks ago I packed some starkist snack kits and bumble bee chicken salad kits - both were in my carry on and I had no problems. I also found muscle milk lite in the airport.

I also just to make sure packed a Protein shot - it was a little bottle less than 3oz and I got it at GNC

I also packed a couple of packages of cream of wheat and oatmeal - you can always get hot Water at a restaurant.

I use the Zone bars as a Meal Replacement option, so I'm not worried about the calories, sugar, fat. Even though they're 140 calories 5 grams of fat and 9 grams of sugar. It's the good kind of sugar (agave nectar, etc...not refined sugar) and they're 14 grams of Protein.

To me the coconut cluster flavor tastes like a candy bar, like a whatchamacallit or something so I love those ones. I'll eat one of those and be good for hours. Target sells them in boxes for around 4 dollars for 6. Most stores sell them separately for 1.50-2.00 each. Speaking of which I'm out of bars time to go to target!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
