I was banded yesterday and just got home from the hospital. Is it normal to feel something inside you when you move or get up from a sitting/laying position? Also I am a side sleeper is it ok to sleep on your side with the lap band or can it move it somehow? Any info would be helpful..I am starting to get gas build up and its not that fun! How long does it last? Thanks Mindi :)

Yes it is normal to feel something inside of you. It took me 4-5 days to sleep on my side & about a week to sleep on my stomach. The gas last about 3 days or so. Just walk, walk, walk. chewable Gas-x & a heating pad help also.

Good luck-

This is a stupid question but what in the world could Gas-x do for gasses that are in the abdomen? Sure, it relieves gas in the stomach and intestines but from everything I have read, the gas causing the pain after surgery is in neither.

Honestly, I don't know how it works but I do know it seemed to help. Maybe it was just mental but it seemed to calm the pain.

I'm not sure but I think it must be absorbed by the intestines or somewhere in the digestive system because of the burping & wind breaking. :)

The GasX did help! As for side sleeping, I was able the second day to prop a sofa pillow under my belly while on my side. (I have seen pregnant people do this on TV) It helps hold that tummy up so you don't feel the pulling as much. It was almost as good as when I got on my belly to sleep.

Walk every 2 hours for the gas. I did this in the hospital and my first 2 nights home. I got up all night too. It helps.

Good luck. You just started an awesome journey!

I hope somebody posts with "how the Gas-X is helping" because it makes absolutely no sense to me.

But it's cheap and if it works, I will do it.

The gas added to the abdomen has to get out of the body somehow! It diffuses into digestive tract, and is expelled. Whether it's headed up or down (both can happen), Gas-X helps with the pain caused by the gas moving into the digestive tract.

Walking helps even more.

Thanks Betsy! I actually started a thread a little bit ago asking about Gas-x and the surgical gas. I didn't use Gas-x and could not see how it could help. What you say makes sense.

I wore holes in my carpet from walking, though.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
