Dr. John Debarros - Success!!

Recommended Posts

Dr Debarros and Dr. Orris work together as a team. They did my surgery and I have found all of my treatment with them to be excellent. They have a great office team with a support system available. Their nutritionist is very supportive and always available and their monthly support meetings with speakers are informative and helpful. I have been very successful in my weight loss efforts thanks to this weight loss center!

I originally had Dr. Simpson do my surgery. was treated very well up until my insurance paid and they recieved my 1000.00 dollars for their fees. Then I had a hard time getting into see him for appt. or would be sitting in his office waiting for an hr past my appt. only to actually see him for 5 min.

I made the choice then to find another dr. I am know seeing Dr. Debarros and am very happy with him. Wish I had done it sooner.

I was banded by Dr. D on 5/10/13 so I'm still early in the game, but I saw him once a month over the past 6 months then on surgery day he was laughing because I was crying thanks to my nerves, but I love him! Even at my post-op last week, he made me feel really good about my progress so far! He is a great surgeon and believes in what he does (he has the lap band too!) which for me really meant something! I also know someone who worked along side him, assisting in his surgeries at Chandler Regional who gave him nothing but rave reviews as a surgeon, so for me that sealed the deal! Going to WLIA was the best choice I ever made and so far I'm down 20 lbs and am half way to my first fill in 3 weeks!

Dr DeBarros is an excellent surgeon and doctor. He takes time to explain everything and answer questions. He is a very caring and thorough physician.

His bedside manner on the other hand is sometimes not very professional. I witnessed him yelling at staff in front of patients.

He has a no nonsense approach.

The overall experience here was okay I'm not going to say Super simply because of the finance issues i lost my insurance and started a new job and I'm able to pay for the fills however the cost for non insured patients is absolutely ridiculous! the help is great in my opinion but the wait time there can use a little work iv'e set there at times and waited almost 3 hrs to only speak with my doctor for less then 5mins (Dr.Debarros) but he is a funny humorous guy and i honestly couldn't have picked a better Doctor to do my surgery. my one advice would be to make sure you stay insured the whole time you need fills and etc... because its a hassle otherwise.

You meet him and can't help but to love the guy. Very cool. Knowlegable and no nonsense. He can speak from exerience because he too is banded. He goes beyond and help you to accomplish your goals. When I first met him I knew I was in the right place. He praised me when I did good and gave me the "over the glasses look" when I was being bad. Even takes teh time to really get to KNOW you. He knows my ultimate goal and what I hope to accomplish with my band and that means something. WLIA is a great place. The entire staff goes beyond for you. When I called and made that initial appointment I was SO excited. I went it and spoke with Meredith and she helped guide me through the entire financial aspect and assured me there were no surprises. I was skeptical at first until the process continued and it all went exactly as she said it was going to. So nice to have that feeling that people are really working WITH you.

The out of pocket expenses she wrote down for me were right on. They even saved me some money! I have had my band for a little over two years now and it has done SO much for me. I have learned from it and especially the wonderful staff at WLIA.

You won't regret making that phone call. I know I haven't! :D :D :D :D :D :D

I have had the most pleasant experience with Dr D and all of the ladies in the office. Everything has really gone as described and as expected. From pre op, to surgery in September to now, I couldn't be more satisfied. I've lost about 40 pounds and as long as I do what I'm supposed to do, the band will do what it's supposed to do! I'm very appreciative that Dr D gives it to me straight! As one person mentioned above - he praises when you're doing everything right and he lets you know when your veering off course. That works for me!

If you're on the fence or considering other places, let me just say that I began my lap band journey with one Arizona company and ended up leaving - best choice I made to go with WLIA!

Just had my pre-op appt and got my surgery date. My appt went smooth, I felt very well informed from the staff at the offices of Dr. DeBarros & Dr. Orris. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time, my nervous do settle when I think about whom I choose to do my lapband, WLIA. I'm confidant in Dr. Orris and the staff at WLIA. I am so ready to continue my journey to a healthier me.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
