My lovely boyfriend just informed me that we are going away for the weekend 11 days after I get banded! WTF?!?! My problems with this are as follows:

1. Am I going to be ok to go? How long before you were able to resume normal activities?

2. The couple we are going with are our drinking buddies (we once went on a trip just to bar hop in Philly lol) I am going to have to dig deep to have the will power to avoid drinking the sweet nectar called beer!

3. Eating...thankfully the hotel where we are staying has fridges in the room...but 11 days out, I will prob still be on liquids right? Not to mention 2 days that is 6 meals in restaurants, how do I handle the waitstaff?

Bleh maybe I shouldn't even go, I don't want to be a hinderance but then again I don't want to be a hermit!

HELP!!!

Good luck with that one! If I were you I would try my best to postpone it to another time when you can enjoy yourself.

I'm ten days out, and could EASILY go away for the weekend. I can't even imagine putting beer into my belly at this point, though--carbonation is the last thing that would work for me.

If you revise your expectations and re-define fun, I'm sure you'll be able to handle it, though.

My lovely boyfriend just informed me that we are going away for the weekend 11 days after I get banded! WTF?!?! My problems with this are as follows:

1. Am I going to be ok to go? How long before you were able to resume normal activities? You should be fine to go away for the weekend and fine for NORMAL activities.

2. The couple we are going with are our drinking buddies (we once went on a trip just to bar hop in Philly lol) I am going to have to dig deep to have the will power to avoid drinking the sweet nectar called beer! Beer is a big NONO! You cannot have carbonation. Some surgeons will allow it after 1 year some don't allow it at all. It will be much too early in your journey for alcohol period!

3. Eating...thankfully the hotel where we are staying has fridges in the room...but 11 days out, I will prob still be on liquids right? Not to mention 2 days that is 6 meals in restaurants, how do I handle the waitstaff? Not sure what your post-op diet will be like but I was on Clear Liquids for 10 days, then all liquids (including Protein shakes) for 10 days before I was allowed mushy food.< /strong>

Bleh maybe I shouldn't even go, I don't want to be a hinderance but then again I don't want to be a hermit!

After your post-op diet you will be able to eat in restaurants and order off a regular menu. You will just need to eat carefully and much less.

HELP!!!

Having the band doesn't mean you can't enjoy things you always have. There is however, a small learning curve that we all go through. Best of luck to you!

I was banded in November and after 11 days you should be fine to go away. But I would say booze is not a good idea, especially beer. As far as food by the 11th day I was onto creamy Soups and Protein Shakes but that was all at home so not sure about going out to eat. Good luck!

I wouldn't go if I were you. I think it's too soon. Sounds like you would be very tempted by the beer. Keep your health goals in mind when making this decision. I was invited on a cruise that I turned down. The drinking, eating and gambling was just too much of a temptation. Maybe you can postpone it? Best of luck to you.

Ugh . . that's a tough one. It's one thing to go out, but to have to eat every meal in a restaurant while you're still on liquids? That sounds like bad timing. Can you postpone it by a month?

BTW, check with your doctor, but I was fine to have a glass or two of wine a week after surgery. Definitely don't drink beer. It's SO uncomfortable to have the bubbles stuck below the band!! And, BE VERY VERY CAREFUL not to drink to the point of being hungover, ever. You do NOT want to throw up once you are banded, especially not while you are still healing!

That said, you can make this work. You'll have to look at menus on-line before the trip and go places that have Soups. I called ahead to restaurants when I was on liquids and arranged for them to puree my soups, which worked just fine. If you get a game plan for eating together, you could make this work. But, that said. . you'd probably enjoy it more if you went a month later.

Have fun!

Catherine

I actually went on a cruise two weeks post op and I did fine. My doctor is perhaps a bit more aggressive with allowing us to progress to mushies, so I was already able to eat mushies and "soft" meat like fish. I did fine on the cruise. I did take my stash of some things like Protein Shakes, but all in all, I had no trouble. I found that I could order scrambled eggs or made-to-order omelets, and if I couldn't eat something off of the dinner menu, I was fine with Soups. Planning is the key.

Beer, however, is another story. The carbonation at 11 days post op will not be a good idea.

Thanks everyone! It will be difficult avoiding beer, but I am so nervous about something happening I think I will be fine! I'm on the fence about actually going, it will probably be a game time decision! :cursing:

If you do go try focusing on the fun your having and not the food your missing out on. Food use to be my fun but now I have to focus on time together. I would love to have gone on a trip at that time. I was already on our motorcycle by then. I just carried liquids with me and when we stopped at a restraunt I ordered Soup and just sipped the broth. Take your doctors # with you. Good luck.

:sneaky:My husband and I meet the gang every Friday at the bar for pizza and beer. Was banded on a Monday and stayed home the first weekend. This weekend I went and had ice Water and a cup of Soup. It was kind of hard, but I have been watching the hubby and kids eat for 3 weeks now and i'm getting used to it. My friends are overweight, so I just think i'm losing and their gaining. Mean I know, but I have to get myself through these early days.

Check w/you doctor about your post-op diet. Mine did not have us do a pureed or mushy stage. I went straight from Clear Liquids on day 3 post-op to solid food from day 4 on. I also had my first glass of wine around day 7 post-op (when my parents came in for Christmas). Definitely do NOT drink beer or any carbonation, but if you want to nurse a glass of wine, I think you'll be fine... worked for me.

All that said, if you could postpone it, that would be easier of course.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
